@Gemini_Sage Neal, you were talking a while back about creating a bed of buff/muted toned roses - how about this as one of the companion plants?

Or is it to be a roses-only bed? Can't find the posts, but I keep remembering those gorgeous colours...

Mika, that would indeed be a perfect companion! It was actually bearded irises that inspired the bed of muted colors. I'll use several kinds of plants.

In kansas, iris and roses don't normally bloom at the same time. This year, the roses are so far ahead that we may see them together!
Today it's raining, and it's a soft, steady, gentle rain, almost like something from the pacific northwest. I carried all my tropicals outside for the season, and the birds are already picking mealy bugs off of them! Hurray!

The Flamingo rose I bought turned out to be a Knock Out.
This rose was bought as JFK, now I grow it as Not JFK:

Larry ... beautiful photos ... of course, I am drooling because I still don't have any blooms in my garden, but I think you have two photos of QE in the post above. I think 'Pink Peace' is a deep pink like this photo from the database:

btw .. I love 'Mary Washington' rose.

That is possible, I will check tomorrow. Of course it is also possible that now I will be growing another rose in the "Not" series of roses that I seem to be so fond of accumulating, this one might become "Not Pink Peace".

I like your terminology. I recently planted a NOT Queen Elizabeth and a NOT Chrysler Imperial rescued from the dead and dying rack at Home Depot; they are both a coral pink - possibly the same imposter. Best was the NOT Golden Showers which bloomed lavender and promptly died. I normally only plant old garden roses, but I felt sorry for these "classics".

Ok, I checked and it was a photo of my Pink Peace, which a bought a few years ago. The Queen Elizabeth rose is one down from it with a Double Knockout in between them. I think this is the first time the Queen Elizabeth has bloomed, so now I guess I actually do have a "Not Pink Peace", the series grows every year it seems.

That lavender iris with the plum blotch on the falls is gorgeous! Plum Pretty Whiskers I believe is the name, and its on my list!

I just got home from Lowe's and picked up a Sunny Sky rose, a Kordes hybrid tea- nice, big plant for just under $20.

Suzanne, I also picked up my first conifer for the new bed, an Arborvitae called 'Goldy' Hurray! This will be first conifer I've planted in this garden!

Neal, I really like the pictures I have seen of Sunny Sky and it has been awarded ADR status here in Europe. Love the way the yellow fades towards the outer petals. The only thing that has held me back is that I have read that it is only slightly fragrant. Please let me know how you would rate the scent.

I would say "slightly fragrant" is pretty accurate. It is a classic rose scent, but is very light. The softness of the fading outer petals is what drew me- its almost buff yellow. Well, that is the blooms on them now are buff yellow, blooms that open outside in the full sun may be a different story. Several plants had nice blooms, but I chose one with only buds- I'll post photos when they start opening. Looks like we need some for the database.
