Donald - I can soooo relate to separating siblings that are pot/cup bound. I, too, use a hose to wet and try to separate them. I am currently in that situation with a whole lotta seedlings which I need to do something about before this month is over. Raised beds or pots .... I haven't decided yet.

My seedlings have bloomed within a year or by the latest 2 years.

Becky, when I lived in Central FL I could expect bloom the next season as long as the seeds were planted by Sept. 1st.

This is a seedling of mine that first bloomed in 2014 but then did not bloom last year. It has changed a bit from the first season, and I really like it -- especially because it shows teeth in cool weather and this first bloom was quite large (6") with the petals and sepals a little more rounded compared with previous blooms.

Lots of improvement Betty, bet there will be lots more teeth as the weather improves. We have been 49 for the pass two nights and its 51 this morning, must be some kind of record for May.
These are some 18 month olds that will go on the lily auction soon.

Betty and Fred - Your newest bloom photos are stunning! Love each and every one! Lovey dubby

Lisa - Yes, many of mine do in fact bloom the following year, but not all. Some are stubborn and take 2 years to bloom .... go figure!

Fred - I love, love, love your FILLED WITH BOLDNESS X DELANEYS RAINBOW! What a gorgeous bloom! Good luck on the auction with all 3 of those beauties!

And I love the second one the best -- sure hope I'm checking the Lily Auction when you put them up for bid!

Thanks for the positive comments, Fred and Becky. It really looked better in person than the picture shows, as the toothy edging really stood out -- and our high temps for the last few days have been around 65-67 with about an inch of rain (unheard of in May in Bakersfield!). I now have a scape coming along on my avatar plant, but I'm worried that it'll bloom while we're on vacation for two weeks in June...

Fred, those are gorgeous flowers, and I suspect they will do very well
on the auction. Great idea putting the number of fans on the photo.

Betty, congrats on getting not only teeth on the petals, but also on the sepals.
Very nice improvement on that one too.
Looking forward to seeing your avatar plant bloom again this season, maybe
after you return from vacation.

Interesting how ZZZ53 and ZZZ55 show no resemblance to Free Wheelin' .

Fred - I will soon have some mini daylilies blooming. They are a first for me! Can't wait to see what the little ones look like. I think I am going to like them!

Here are today's seedlings:

CCC107 (Drink the Light x God Save the Queen). 2 fans, one 19" scape, 7 buds, 6 1/2" bloom, some rust (1.5-2.0), and diamond dusting as well as the golden trim on the ruffles. This one wowed me this morning. First bloom ever on this seedling and I expect it will get better.

Morning:

Late afternoon: (It does fade.)
Thumb of 2016-05-10/beckygardener/136d75

Hopefully you can see the gold trim and diamond dusting on the petals:
Thumb of 2016-05-10/beckygardener/d53583

ZZZ67 (Dragonfly Dawn x Dragonfly Dawn). Second year of blooms, 1 fan still, 7 buds only, taller this year at 26 1/2", bloom size has increased to 6 1/2". Rust 2.5 - 3.0 .

Late Afternoon:

And DDD27 (Westbourne Family Tree x Spacecoast Cranberry Kid). This is a really interesting one. It does not have the pink colored petals that the parents or previous pedigree has. BUT .... It does resemble Ida's Magic somewhat. I've had blooms that were totally unexpected the very first year they bloomed. And then the following year's blooms changed completely. So I am wondering if this might be the case with this particular seedling. Otherwise, I'd have to say I either mis-labeled it or the person I received the seeds from made a mistake on the cross label.

No morning photo as it was having a hard time opening with the cooler night temps. This is a late afternoon photo:

Nice Becky, like #1 and #2 best. I think most daylilies fade some by late afternoon if in the hot sun.

needrain said: Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Here is the 1st bloom ever from a seedling. I don't think there's too much hope, but it's got 14 more chances to improve. It may improve, but I think it has too far to go. Only one good petal? A 'Tusk' bloom was doing some of the same thing today, so it might be weather related. We got really cool at night this week. The pod was from 'Wild Horses'. Odds are good that the pollen came via 'French Twist' because it mostly was my 'go to' for pollen on tetraploid blooms, but 'Serge Rigaud' and 'Primal Scream' were also used. I think I ended up with about half a dozen pods which I also didn't keep separate. Not to mention there were hundreds of little sweat bees grabbing pollen and might have been working with a different agenda than mine. 'WH' was not one I tried to keep up with except for recording what pollen I used every day. I used paper clips and bread ties on other crosses, but even on some of those, the marker got off the pods occasionally - squirrels, birds, wind, or just not getting them attached well enough - I don't know. It's fun to do and I have really low expectations anyway. Hilarious!

Well, it did improve on the second bloom. I don't know what color it is, though. Photos are showing more brown than you see with the naked eye. It's sort of a burnt orange, I guess, but not quite that either. Face, side and back views:
