I am loving all the new daylily seedlings. Every bloom is so interesting. I'm new to this group. But am learning a lot! Two seedlings that bloomed yesterday.

The scapes are not very tall. But pretty. I liked the idea above about bold colors and garden presence. Makes a lot of sense. But it is nice too to look at intricate flowers. As far as genetics goes, and bud count. Which parent has the most influence? Pod or pollen? If I wanted to increase bloom count, would I use the daylily with the high bud count as my pod parent? Confused

Leslie, that looks just like Rockin Robin, which is blooming for me yesterday and today. Did you make any babies with it. I cant get mine to ruffle, but it is as faithful as can be, nice color, so it stays.

So when I just now posted RR's picture, I noticed this seedling that bloomed for the first time this year, made a clump, but just ended up in the cull bin. The darn picture didnt look so bad, so I went and fished it out.

Welcome Angela. I like your seedlings, especially the 2nd one.

Pam, my pink sdlg. was from seeds I bought. It has Alexa Kathryn in it. I like both of yours!

Another new seedling today. The cross is supposed to be (Dizzy Damselfly X Art Gallery Etching). I don't like the bloom much, though the purple edge on the petals and cream edge on the sepals seems sort of neat. Not enough to salvage it visually for me. Canoeing is causing the whole bloom to twist. The plant itself is doing some cool things, though. There are three branches if you count the little crooked one that hasn't grown straight yet. The lowest branch is so low on the scape that it looks like another scape. But maybe the coolest thing to me was finding another scape coming up when I began taking photos today (3rd photo). Voila! Instant rebloom. Considering this was a single fan until about 2 months ago, it impresses me on the willingness to both grow and bloom. Maybe the bloom will get better when it warms up. We never got out of the 50s here today. I've had to wear a jacket all day. Really unusual temp for here this time of year.

A couple of seedlings blooming here. Our weather is so cold for the daylilies but we did see the sun late in the day. The temps were in the 50's here. Most of the flowers did not open today and most of yesterdays blooms look the same today.

Donald,
wait until you have some normal temps to evaluate your seedling.

Welcome! Angela. I don't think it makes a difference whether the parent is pod or pollen since you have the genetics of both in a seedling. You can find certain daylilies that produce good buds and branching. I posted the scape of my Rose F Kennedy seedling above where RFK is the pollen parent. I have a couple of hundred RFK seedlings with RFK as pod and pollen parent and have determined that it produces lots of kids with great scapes. You can try a high bud count parent. I have seen lots of buds on seedlings from parents without great bud counts and few buds on some from high bud count parents. You can study the registrations from different parents that you are interested in using. Your growing conditions and how the plant adapts to your climate makes a difference as well.

Terry,
That scape on the sdlg X Rose F. K. seedling is amazing! I like the bloom too. Color reminds me of parchment paper which nearly always evokes elegance to me. And no canoeing!! I just cannot seem to make peace with that feature - and I've tried.

Welcome Angela.

Nice seedlings everyone, have been MIA for a week due to health concerns with Kathleen and things are much better now with her new pacemaker.

Had a great visit from Ashton & Terry (kidfishing) and family. Before they left here headed south, my son and nine year old granddaughter claimed them as family. Hope you guys had a great trip and a few new daylilies.

Also had a visit from James Hall yesterday
guess what pollen I will use this morning
