John moved some daffodil bulbs yesterday. We have them in front of a stone wall along the street. When some repairs were made in Sept. because a hose across the street had lost water, they dug all the way to the wall to find the 'shut-off'. That would leave a blank. So he dug some which had worked their way to the surface, thinned the clump & planted where the disturbance had been made. About 60° so easier to do.

It is very cold here with the north wind and that usually means snow and I still have some planting to do so better get on with it!
Regards.

Here too Lucy. Knew this temp was too good to be true. Weatherman on t.v. just said 50's for Saturday and upper 30's lower 40's on Sunday. Windy too. Naturally, The Christmas parade is schedules for Sunday afternoon. Wonderful (sarcasm) simply wonderful.

Dear Janice, we have so many castles over here that my favourite castle is Leeds castle which is in Kent not at Leeds in Yorkshire which is the most beautiful in the world! It has a drawbridge a portcullis over the massive moat full of fish and an aviary. It really is spectacular! Then we have Edinburgh castle in Scotland which is on the top of an old volcano and that is beautiful as well, in fact everywhere you go there is a castle somewhere or the remains of one.
Debra, I do hope your day went well and the family did not have too much to eat? I hope you got your plants in whilst it was mild as it was cold here today.
Regards from a cold England.
Neil.

Neil, the three times I was privileged to visit your "neck of the woods", the castles and abbeys definitely were highlights of the trips. Smiling I did not do any outside work yesterday--decided to be lazy. Smiling We are expecting our first freeze toward the end of next week, so I'd better get on it, though. Most of the daylilies are established enough to do just fine in their containers. It is rarely below freezing temperatures and I have covers for them when it is that cold. Seedlings will be coming in to the converted porch. The weekend will still be mild and fair, makes for good working time. Thumbs up

Debra

Dear Janice, nowadays castles are as they are very expensive to look after like abbeys and cathedrals plus mansions so to attract visitors they normally have beautiful gardens. Some are stunning and some are medieval dating back to the 1400s. Did you know in the early 1500s a Tudor manor was built near Oxford and that is George Washington's ancestral home, he was of course the President of your country. The gardens have been kept the same from when it was built, and it is a remarkable place. Winchester Cathedral is 1000 years old and that has fantastic gardens as well. But if you really want to go to see some really spectacular gardens go to Hampton court Palace the home of King Henry VIII, the Tudor gardens there are awesome!
Dear Debra, it seems like a lot of people were like that yesterday for one lady on my cubits site sent me a picture of her dog collapsed on the sofa after eating too much Turkey! Another lady said she did not have any Turkey but just felt lazy! Rolling on the floor laughing
Regards from a cold and dark England.

A beautiful English style castle was built here in the 1920's on the ocean in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
They imported many of the materials from your country, Neil, and all over Europe. They have an amazing organ and concerts. I especially think their indoor pool is quite lovely with overhead skylights.
When my son was small we would visit quite alot. A fantastic place.

Dear Janice, I have never seen a castle with a pool and skylights but it does sound lovely! Most of ours are cold, dark and damp places and no windows as they were built for defense. The only fun one I know is at Edgehill in Worcestershire which was crucial in the English civil war and it has been turned into a pub! It is amazing as it has four bars a stunning garden and the toilets are in the dungeons! Every Sunday they have a an ox roast or a hog roast in the garden and it is beautiful. In the spring it is a sea of snowdrops then crocus, iris and daffodils finally with hyacinths, an amazing place to go and see, plus have a few beers and a plate of food.
We have untold gardens here as there are so many of them, the oldest still surviving is 900AD, the oldest still lived in house with a garden is 800AD, there is older houses but they are not lived in.
Kindest regards from England.
Neil.
