The first snow is here with tempertures just below zero C, and I have some carrots and kale still in the garden. I put some potato leaves and other debris over the carrots, so I hope they will be ok when it thaws.

Neil, I love your ancient buildings, castles and palaces and historical ruins like the Roman Wall, and all the beautiful gardens. I feel like I´m in a dream when I stroll through them during my rare visits Angel . I have been to the Edinburgh Castle a few times, but I didn´t know it was built on a volcano Confused

Dear Magga, when you asked for some information about coming to London I was most happy to give you some and I was glad the places you went to were nice and the people were polite to you as we normally are to people.
Our little island is full of castles, cathedrals, abbeys and gardens, and that I am aware of but I could not take you to all of them in a month, maybe a year and a bit. Rolling on the floor laughing
Winchester is a dream place for its 1000 year cathedral to the Knights of the round table, the gardens are spectacular, the water meadows with the trout jumping in the streams are stunning and the food is amazing. Then near there you have Notcutts and Hilliers which are the two top nurseries there and they welcome you in to see the most remarkable display of trees and shrubs plus other things you can see, totally amazing places.
I know your country is beautiful and one day I will get there as I would love to see it.
Kindest Regards.
Neil.

Thank you so much Neil, I know whom to ask next time, whenever that will be, and you know I would be happy to assist you over here. I would love to visit some nurseries, but as much as I would like I can´t take any plants with me to Iceland unless I have a certificate of health or something like that, which I have heard is very expensive unless I import a whole 20 ft. container.

We have had snow here since last week and temps are falling rapidly now, expected to be minus 12°C in some places this week, but it is really warm and nice inside. Ægir likes to go out in the snow and he loves rolling and playing like a baby. Luckily the storm that hit the Faroe Islands and Norway didn´t come here.

Love to you all.

Dear Magga, it is lovely to see the Arboretums and gardens both of the nurseries have and I am sure you would enjoy that? It is really cold here and I got the last of my pansies planted today at last and my hands were frozen so it was a bowl of hot soup to warm up. As for getting plants out of the country our customs would stop you anyway unless you had the documents and as you say that is very expensive.
Give Aegir our love.
Hope you are all well?
Regards.

Jamie, if Neil comes to visit in the summer, he will love it. If he comes to visit in the winter, he'd better bring some warm clothes, LOL!

Magga, I guess I hadn't paid attention to the fact that you live in Iceland! I would love to hear more about your weather, how you garden, and Ægir (I had to copy and paste that to make it come out right, LOL!).

Neil, I can't believe that you are still planting! Lucky you!

Dear Brenda, I grew a lot of pansies and had a lot left so decided to use them up as we love them and they can stand the cold. As for the cold in your winters I did the Arctic warfare school in Norway whilst in the Army and it gets to minus 50 there so does it get colder than that where you live? There is a lot about Aegir on my cubits site, plus Inky, Phoenix and a new British dog called Mr Brown!
Hope you are both well.
Lovey dubby

Dear Janice, I use Thompson and Morgan for a lot of things but for vegetable seeds for my allotment I use Suttons as they are the best for that. My Savoy cabbages I grew from seed and my Brussels sprouts are wonderful this year, but nothing can beat the cauliflowers as they are superb. It is very cold over here which is ideal for Brussels sprouts as they are mo good till the frost gets on them.
I use Suttons as they have been going a long time and I have an electric propagator and everything I get from them seems to come up very well so I can plant it out early and get a good crop later on.
Kindest regards.
Neil.

Dear Janice, Suttons became very famous during the second world war in the 'Dig For Victory' campaign when food was so severely rationed you had to grow your own vegetables. They produced some of the classic seeds we still use today like 'Mammoth Giant' leeks which are what they say they are on the packet and produce giant leeks that taste good. All their products are good so that is why I use them as we like their products. There are a lot of other seed purveyors in the UK as we are a Nation of gardeners and allotment holders but I stick to the ones I know.
Regards.
Neil.
