I'm still working on my midseason bloomers. Peak is a full week late here this year...due to the crappy weather we've had since last fall I guess. We did get a little rain today, very little. The edge of the rain was 3 towns south of us where it was actually raining this morning while I was down there. A few blooms with raindrops...

So we turn to the taciturn month of August. I'm seven weeks from average first freeze. And still with scapes with no open blooms yet.

And I can add 'Addie Branch Smith' as I snagged a half-clump from my mom this weekend. The pic is one of her blooms. It's a little blurry- I had to crop my stupid thumb out and it enlarged too much.
Thumb of 2016-08-01/ShakespearesGarden/9f9f66
As experienced at my mom's house, 'Addie Branch Smith' is a prolific clump builder. I took half of a four or five year old clump- my half is about 9 inches in diameter and I swear I'm going to have 20+ fans.
Is this normal for this cultivar?

Wow...where did the month of July go? It's been so incredibly hot here (like everywhere else) that it's nearly unbearable to be out doing anything, but there are always weeds to pull, beds to freshen up, seeds to start, pods to collect, and this year, battling with the CROWS! They have been stealing seed pods, eating buds, and even eating the daylilies themselves (as well as coleus, bell peppers, dianthus, irises, and anything else they can get into) Grumbling
I'm also trying to get all my seedlings planted in new beds by the greenhouse, so haven't taken the time to post. I've been reading everything though, and sure have enjoyed the show that you all have been putting on. Lovey dubby

Larry,
It is even prettier in person, and is a very large bloom. The crows ate many of the buds, but hopefully the two tiny buds that are left will bloom in a week or so. The other thing I like about Ruth Whitten is that it blooms late in my garden, which makes it stand out since it doesn't have to compete when everything is in full bloom.

Regina - Lots of beauties in your garden!

Tom - Nice one!

Mike - Your Spacecoast Rio Verde reminds me of an Amaryllis! So pretty!

Regina - I have birdbaths and seed feeders for the birds and squirrels, so they rarely bother my plants. Though the cardinals still pull the blooms off my salvia to lick out the nectar. Some birds just have a sweet beak. I try to keep everyone happy in my yard .... plants and critters alike. Smiling

Your top noid looks like one I have been trying to ID for years. For some reason Island Hospitality goes through my mind, but I think I looked that up and decided no. Mine was quite short for awhile with large flowers, but I moved it and it finally grew to a more normal size, but still fairly short.

kidfishing said:I wish it was raining too hard to go out here. May and June are our highest average rainfall months and we just ended June with 1.1 inches of rain after only 2 inches in May.
The electric bill is up from the water well and the Daylilies look great with more rebloom than ever around here.
I spent some picture time in the beds with older Daylilies and still appreciate the beauty of the self colors.
