Jill, I would like to have 1 or 2 'Gervase' if there is still enough to go around. Thanks!

OK, here's what we have so far on the amaryllis... I just got $40 from Theresa and her brother for "whatever you have, especially jumbo bulbs." So that puts us over for ordering Vera & Apple Blossom... I took the remainder as gifts for teachers & friends.

I'll see if we can get these Monday:

Gervase (Dutch): 3 (4) for Critter, 3 (4) for Lisa, 2 for Donner, 2 for Ghiorzis

Princess (Israeli, $4.25): 6 for Critter, 2 for Lisa, 2 for Ghiorzi

Apple Blossom (jumbo, Peruvian): 2 for Lisa, 2 for Ghiorzi, 6 for Critter

Vera (jumbo silvery pink, Peru): 4 for Critter, 2 for Ghiorzi, 4 for Lisa

personal note: 5 Princess for teachers, 6 for family, 4+ for friends, 4+ for me

Updated Amaryllis Order, after adding Samba. I can free up 2 Apple Blossom, 2 Princess, and/or 2 Samba from my order.

Sorry, didn't manage to call ADR earlier today. Trying to get my heart around losing Sharon, and Joyanna has the day off from school, so I've been distracted.

Apple Blossom (28-30, Dutch, $4.75): 3 for Lisa, 2 for Ghiorzi, 4 for Critter, 1 for Donner (waiting to get invoice w/ price but these are much less than jumbo from Holland)

Gervase Charisma (jumbo, Dutch): 3 (4) for Critter, 3 (4) for Lisa, 2 for Donner, 2 for Ghiorzis - FREE (Walter sent them as a no charge replacement)

Samba (jumbo, Dutch, $7.50): 5 for Critter, 4 for Donner, 2 for Ghiorzis

Princess Minerva (Dutch, $4.25): 1-3 for Critter, 2 for Lisa, 2 for Ghiorzi. 3 for Donner GREAT DEAL (waiting for invoice confirmation, but Walter said he could sub these jumbo bulbs with no up-charge)

Vera (jumbo silvery pink, Peru, $4.69): 4 for Critter, 2 for Ghiorzi, 4 for Lisa
(box was marked Vera, but oddly there were Minerva tags inside... we'll see when they bloom LOL)

I talked to Walter, and he'll let us have free shipping on the additional amaryllises. Lovey dubby

The amaryllises have been arriving at the warehouse since yesterday, so they are in the process of inventorying everything to see what they really have... He will get back to me asap with the status of the ones we wanted.

I emailed him with some possible substitutions... please let me know if there are any you would not want if sub'd in the following fashion:

If Gervase is not available, just drop it from the order please... we'll order earlier next year. Ditto if we can't get the replacement box of Princess this year.

If Samba is not available, please substitute Minerva from Peru, in the largest size we can get. Design or Lemon Star would also work.

If jumbo size Vera is not available, OK to substitute either Vera in either of the smaller sizes, or Rosita in a smaller size

If Apple Blossom is not available, please sub. the regular size Apple Blossom from Peru, or sub. Cherry Blossom (also regular size from Peru), and if not that, any of the Peruvian bulbs other than Orange Sovereign would work

Donner, I know you were interested in Samba specifically, so I wouldn't expect you to want a sub. Ditto with Lisa and Apple Blossom. If we have to substitute either of those, you're not committed to the subs...Theresa and I can take the extras.

Note that if we don't get jumbo size in any of the bulbs, the regular size bulbs are still decent -- 28/30 cm, like a baseball rather than like a softball, and they'll give 1 bloom stalk and often 2.

Jill, thanks. Yeah, if they don't have Samba, I will not take Minerva because I bought Minerva in the past 2 years. After a summer of water and fertilizer, the bulbs are very plump now. nodding

That's fine, Donner... I knew you were after Samba specifically, while I just wanted something red & white for Christmas gifts. :-)

I'm glad you're having such good results with your bulbs!!

Slightly off the current topic @critterologist & @5601Lisa may I pick up my bulbs from Lisa's? It's a tad closer for me and my family schedule's been a tad crazy of late.
“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. I ended up with Lisa's crate of tulips, so I'm not going to try to change the shipping address to her place for the amaryllises (ADR's ordering system doesn't deal with changes well LOL)... The weekend before Halloween is going to be super busy here, so if we're trying to get everybody together at the same time that would probably be the weekend of Nov. 6/7. Weekdays work for me, also, so maybe we can get these bulbs sorted out and ferried around sooner than that.

Bulbs can also be picked up from me as soon as they arrive here, which could be as early as next week Tuesday. I left a message for Walter this afternoon... he always comes through for us but sometimes skips the email response when they're this busy... sort of expecting the amaryllises to just show up without notice. LOL

nice chart, Rick! The bulbs from Israel & Peru often bloom in 4-5 weeks, and some of my own bulbs will take 7-8 weeks to break dormancy again, but 6 weeks is a pretty good average... and once you see the tip of a bud, you can hurry things along with heat (or slow things down by putting the pot on the floor of the basement).

I'm thinking of getting some heating cabled this year. I figure I can put a large pan on the shelf lay in the cable and cover it with peat or perlite and set my pots on top.

I've heard of people using kitty litter (plain clay, like from the dollar store) with either a heating cable or (love this) Christmas lights (not LED ones).

I got spoiled with the heat mats and thermostat I bought years ago, so when one of the mats recently went toes-up, I bought another one. Easy, and the thermostat keeps me from cooking my seeds if basement temps go over 70 (it happens).

AMARYLLIS bulbs are here... mostly. I just emailed Walter and will call tomorrow... we got 'Charisma' (which we didn't order) and did not get 'Gervase' (which I super wanted). Hopefully we can still get 'Gervase'.

I asked Walter the cost of the 'Charisma' bulbs, thinking if I'd sell them off if I could (he may be willing to make us a deal on them rather than paying return shipping). I'll tell you what he says... and you can tell me if you want them as a sub or in addition to Gervase (if we can still get Gervase). I didn't find a packing slip, or I'd know prices.

Apple Blossom we got in a smaller size from Peru instead of jumbo from Holland, and it'll be at a much reduced cost. Lisa, thinking you might want to get a couple more so you can put 3 in a pot for yourself.

There are no 'Princess' bulbs this year. Instead, Walter subbed 'Minerva', nice jumbo bulbs, too! I told him that was fine, since I could use some red & white bulbs for gifts. I know Donner doesn't want 'Minerva' but thought Lisa might.

Vera we got as ordered, nice big bulbs.

We'll figure it out once we know the final prices and whether or not we can get 'Gervase'.

I know this seems very confused, but that's what happens when we place an order just as the bulbs are coming in and inventory is in flux.

Thanks, Lisa! I don't think the bulbs will need much sorting, as there aren't that many... I'm more concerned about getting your bulbs to you (and Chantell's also). If you're willing & able to head up this way, that would be great! Do you come up 270 or 15? I'm thinking I could meet you partway for lunch or whatnot... just a little limited even with driving until my legs bounce back again.
