Beautiful subtle colors on that one, and I love the shot with the back lighting.

Jim, thanks. I have it in that spot every Summer and it seems happy there. It moves in the breeze, gets sun in the morning and then gentle shade under the Cherry tree.

Nice flowers Melissa and Ursula. Nothing going on here. What few I had in bloom were all shipped out this week. Only the Bletilla 'Kate" are starting to bloom. The photo makes it look like a nice, big flower but in reality, they are only about 1-1.5" in diameter.

Wow, this is sort of late for your Bletillas, isn't it? I thought they were spring flowering. Really pretty, what a neat lip on that one.

These were seedlings, purchased in April. I assume they have grown enough to bloom, so they are. One of my customers that purchased some of these a couple of months ago emailed me that his were beginning to bloom as well. But my Spathoglottis plicata 'Snow Angel' plants are beginning to bloom too, and these are 1 yr. old plants. I don't know why they are blooming now.

Yes, I never saw one blooming in late summer before. Pretty flower.

Yes, Bert, that's Bulb. lepidium. Switch the caps around and you're good to go. How's the fragrance?

Thanks, Jim. Mother Nature doesn't always seem to have a set schedule. I only have a handful of the Spath. plicata 'Grape Sorbet', but a couple are getting so huge that I need to divide them. This is probably not the best time to do this, but............. The GS was in bloom most of the winter, inside the solarium. Go figure. Here is what she looked like last December.

My Spaths do start later, Ken. They're not spring bloomers, they will go year 'round if it doesn't get cold enough to stop them. I re-potted most of mine this spring, and they're just now starting to put up new flower scapes.

This is the first time I have had hardy ground orchids (Bletilla), and I am looking forward to leaving some out this winter and see if they are truly cold-hardy. I am not doubting the literature, but just want to prove their hardiness. I no doubt will bring some into the solarium and overwinter them there. Perhaps they'll reward me with flowers like the plicata GS did.

It is Bulbophyllum lepidum, no? Not lepidium. Smiling
And it is a cutie!

I don't think the 5 Bletilla that I got from Brent and Becky's end of the season sale were particularly happy where I put them...I saw a couple of leaves on a couple of the bulbs/tubers/ whatever...then they just vanished. Confused
Nice Bulbos Ursula and Bert!

A small Cattleya opened last night. This is Brassocattleya Hawaii Stars 'Paradise' (Brassavola Little Stars x Cattleya Memoria Robert Strait). I wonder how long it took her to put on the lipstick? Hilarious!
