The correct name for that pretty orchid is Rhyncattleanthe [Rth.] Chief Sweet Orange.

OK, thanks Jim. I wonder if Chief Sweet Orange was a Seminole or a Calusa? Whistling Hilarious!

My plant was just about exactly that size when I got it 5 years ago, Lindsey. Through my blundering efforts at over-potting it initially, it grew into this monster we see today. I missed out on a couple of years' bloom while it was madly growing foliage but it has sure made up for it in the last 3 years.

OK, let's see if I can pull this off. Reference Elaine's NOID, Picture 1 is Elaine's picture of her plant; picture two is Lindsey's picture of Rhyncattleanthe [Rth.] Chief Sweet Orange and picture three is of Rhyncattleanthe [Rth.] Chief Sweet Orange in OrchidWiz.

Oh, wow, that's so kind of you. Big Grin I think if you saw the plant in person you'd think twice. It has some sun burnt leaf tips and is crawling out all sides of a 10in. basket. The plant is big and blooms wonderfully, but it's far from nice enough to win any ribbons.

We've had a dry day today, surprisingly, since I did spray some fertilizer around this morning. I was sure that would make it pour.

We had one 5 minute rain here about an hour ago and nothing yesterday. The forecast on Friday called for a washout this weekend. Where did all of that rain go?

Well . . take a look at the forecast - that storm is now north of Havana and has been upgraded. They're predicting it to head out into the Gulf, become a TS then turn around and come back towards us. Shrug! Rolling my eyes. Anywhere from Pensacola to Port Charlotte are in the "best guess" zone.

You all need to come to NJ, we are having the most gorgeous Summer weather, nice sunshine but not super humid. I sure wish it could stay this way.

Oh, guess what? Another repeat bloomer "maybe Yellow Bird" is putting on spikes galore again. This single flower opened way ahead of her sisters.

Forgot to say "Wow and Thanks" to Jim for the great side by side pictures. It sure looks like we've solved the identity of my big baby. I will make a tag.

great job Jim!... I have to say, this Florida Orchid Growers FB page is pretty cool...not all plants bloom around the same time, but many do.and folks post their photos..and that's what led to solving Elaine's mystery NOID..
My plants are ready for a deluge. they are dry..I've moved the occupants from bench # 3 to a rack between bench 1 & 2 so that when I have to deploy my 'trailer trash tarp' over the bench ...everyone will be covered. I haven't checked the weather recently, but last time I did it was '100% chance of rain for 8 days!'

The Dendrobium bigibbum v. compactum is happily and messily blooming as usual.

Beautiful color on the Love Knot, and it sure is a tight little "knot" of a plant too. Your bigibbum's baby sister is still blooming away on its one nice stalk here.

That 'Kiilani' looks like the wonderful rich color of some of our Apopka dens. Mine are busily making keikis right and left but not putting up any blooms.

I read somewhere that dens tend to kiki, rather than bloom, when over watered. I still haven't got a handle on Dens, so can't verify.

Yep, overwatering is my middle name these days. When it rains, it pours and the storms sneak up on me. I don't mind - they looked like they were dying before they started making all the keikis so I'd rather have this than dead Dens. It will dry out, maybe in October some time . . .
