I must admit I'm not throwing pots of gold on auctions, international shipping has its cost to put in, but well it was fun and now off to search another cross I like!

Nothing wrong with that. The same cross can go for wildly different prices depending on the timing too. I had a cross that I sold 5 seeds for $60, and I sold 5 seeds for like $2.50 last year. You never know what will happen.

True, I lost the auction because I set my limit, what can I afford right now. If I'm lucky good for me, otherwise I'm happy for who wins!

Yea, I had to hold myself back on the cockatoo today, of James. I had been followed around all day by this person, and I was just so over it by that point.

So sorry, Pam! I've enjoyed LA and have some amazing seeds...now to get them to growing for me is a whole nuther issue!

Do try again, Sabrina! But yes, set your limit and let what happens happen.

Well, I set a high limit (or what I thought was a high limit) on a cross that I really wanted but evidently my high is somebody's low.

I have found that timing is a factor in trying to win on the LA. This time of year and during the Fall/Winter months, I had noticed the demand for seeds was higher. But when Spring and Summer arrives, the LA is not as busy and I have a better chance of winning some seeds that I want at a price I can afford.

Though in saying that..... if bidders (from other countries) are buying, that may change my chances year round. D'Oh! Confused Sad Sad

I notice that too Becky. But by spring and summer, the ones that are special are sold out. I hope Steve (Ahead) will put more seeds with CABBAGE BUTTERFLY X PSP X SHALOTTseedling as a parent in the cross. I really like its beautiful green color. Apparently I was not the only one thinking that it is very unique. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Timing is everything and being in the other part of the world where day is night and viceversa doesn't help. But I set my maximum, and forget it. I only hope that doing so doesn't make other bidders think I bid just to make cost higher.

It might be that the thought is that the seeds are fresher at the end of summer and at the start of fall. Or it might be that some of us want to start germination in the fall to have the seedling grow through the winter to be planted in the ground in the spring. Bill Maryott told me that there is no reason to wait until spring to germinate seeds. A lot of time would be wasted.

Or it might be that we just want to have the fun of bidding!

I agree with that...and would add that I think the fact that most of us are going through daylily withdrawal right now might be influencing the increased action on the LA. For most, the blooms in our gardens have all but stopped and we are looking for a new way to get our daylily fix. Or is that just me Whistling

I just won some great seeds from @ladylovingdove yesterday...and last week...and probably next week too. I also got a couple of pretty seedlings Lovey dubby

I agree, Amber. There are some really awesome seedlings for sale right now. There is a Bob Faulkner seedling that is just so very special. The coloring is so unique that I don't think I have seen one similar to it elsewhere. I think it may go over $50 when auction is over.
