Gary, you might want to check Home Depot. I picked up three bags of daffs at 50% off. Two bags got planted yesterday.

Cool. I see you have Pink Charm. I'd love to find that here. But, alas HD and Lowe's here have a poor selection of bulbs. They are so hyped up about Christmas sale items, that there is little space for anything garden related. Thumbs down

Hello Caroline. I got Dick Wilden, Pink Charm and some more Tete-a-tete. I planted the first bag I have of TAT in the garden and these ones will be for forcing. I am in zone 5/Chicagoland area and we still have nice weather, unusual for this time of year. Usually the ground freezes around December.

Hello Deebie. I love Pink Charm. I already have a clump growing in the garden. I can't pass it up with that price. HD has the mixed doubles that I like but they were already sold out. Lowe's here has poor selection also. HD and Menard's are where I found good stuff.

The weather is definately acting weird at the moment. We've had rain for the past three weeks now and very mild temps during the day. I fear for my bulbs since more rain is coming

Yes, ideally they do not need a whole lot of water in the fall.
I tell my daughters to plant the bulbs, and to water them once only when planting. Unless it becomes a very dry fall.

Nice score on the daffs Lily! I refuse to go look for bargains, because I have so many bulbs to plant.

My 300 Dordogne tulips arrive from Colorblends several weeks ago, that I put it the fridge because we still had temps on the 80's. The Van Engelen order arrived last week.

We're finally getting some cooler temps, with the next few nights going into the low 30's, so I started planting some of the bulbs, along with pansies today.

I planted 100 Dordogne, 30 Design Impression, 30 Pink Impression, and 30 Ollioules tulips with 4 flats of pansies.

Only 1210 tulips left to plant, along with 200 hyacinths😱!

The Van Engelen order

No, I use a bulb dibber and plant them individually. I planted in my 2 raised beds by the front walkway, so the tulips were easy to plant.

While digging, I found tulip bulbs from last year that looked very healthy. I'll be interested to see what blooms from these next year.

@Legalily

A couple of years ago, I ordered additional bulbs late (after Thanksgiving Day). I had dug trenches out ahead of time and stored the soil in trug tubs and placed in my garage, since the ground would most likely be frozen when the bulbs arrived.

http://www.gardeners.com/buy/c...

They arrived mid December and I was out with snow on the ground in cold temps planting them. My fingers, toes and body were frozen when I got done. I had to walk up and down the slippery slight hill we have in the backyard.

Never doing that again.

Do what I did, and dig your holes or trenches ahead of time and store your soil, so the ground won't be frozen when the bulbs arrive.

I had a lot of trug tubs of soil, since I dug down 10 inches (I always have lots of trug tubs on hand). Good thing I thought to do that ahead of time. Hope you have something you can store your soil in ahead of time. How many bulbs are you expecting?

Read your post and I wanted to help you out. We already have frozen ground here with the arrival of cold temps and looks like our lows are going to be unseasonably low this coming week also.

I wasn't able to plant bulbs this fall, as I usually do, but I hope to plant them next fall.

LeeRoy, fall planted bulbs can tolerate excessive moisture once they've broken dormancy, which happens quickly after planting, so yours should be fine. If the site drains well you shouldn't have any problems. When bulbs are dormant they're much more at risk of rotting.

Annette, I would love to see your yard in person come spring, if you don't mind I know it's going to be gorgeous, like what we see at some estates. Let me see, who do I know in Duluth? My DB and family used to live in Beaufort, Ga., but they moved back to West Palm Beach, and right now my twin is in Clarkston (but she may be moving soon). I'm getting closer. . . nodding

I only have a few more coming (less than 20) and I always have 5 gallon buckets around. I just haven't decided where exactly I a putting them. I got the confirmation they should be here this coming week so I think I'll take my chances and plant them Thanksgiving weekend and it is supposed to warm up a bit
Do you mind if I ask which part of Northern KY you are in? My DD lives in Crescent Springs (Villa Hills) just off Buttermilk. She mentioned yesterday it will get colder this week. It's such a pretty area. (If I asked before I'm sorry - brain overload not old age nodding nodding nodding )
