I found this "assorted Echeveria" on clearance for $5. I've noticed a pattern because it rains so much here that succulents often get marked down when they get super wet. Many or most are savable.

I was on my way to work so it's currently in my car. But I think it will be fine until tonight. I'm probably going to take off a lot of the lower leaves and dry it out for a couple days before repotting it. It is over 12 inches wide so I'm likely going to put it in a big bowl.

I think it might be the biggest one I've ever encountered. I know they get bigger in habitat (I think, at least?). Does anybody know of a list of Echeveria varieties/species by size? I haven't found one that's easy to sort through. Just curious. I'm guessing that since it's an "assorted Echeveria" that it's a hybrid of some sort.

On my lunch break I took it home and took another picture.

It rained last night but we're supposed to be dry for the next 3 days. Knock on (my old, soaked, porch) wood.
Keep going!

Yes, it is. Thumbs up The biggest Echeveria around here is a giant clone of subrigida (which I am currently propagating from leaves off the flower stem, because it's solitary) measuring about 12 inches. My Graptoveria "Opalina" is also about that size. Some of the plants which have been used to breed hybrids get wide and also weirdly tall (for an Echeveria).

How do you water that plant, Jai? It doesn't look easy.

I just got it, so I haven't watered it yet. I originally thought I would put it in a bowl with large drainage holes, but once I took it home I realized my bowl is too small. Ooops.

This one is only about 5" tall, so it's pretty low-lying despite being so wide.

You can bottom water (park the pot in a low bowl full of water for half an hour) or you can find a pot that is just wider than the plant, and then aim the water at the soil (only). There is a very serious risk of stem rot if you allow water to be regularly trapped in the rosette. When in doubt after you water or it rains, a quick puff of air can work wonders.

Yeah, I know. In this climate that's a super huge problem and that's why succulents and cacti go on clearance so often--they get soaked, drenched, and flooded. I keep most of mine under plastic during the summer and the rest indoors.

I also keep Echeveria minima so after I figure out how (and where) to repot this I plan to take pictures of Echeveria minima sitting on this one. This one has leaves bigger than the entire plant of E. minima.
Keep going!

I got it repotted in an old Italian terra cotta. I had to take off more leaves than I anticipated but it had pretty healthy roots. They were just soaked with water.

I placed it off-center on purpose so that I would have enough room to water it.

In both pictures I put Echeveria minima beside it to show the difference because it is also in bloom.

It's not supposed to rain for the next few days and it was outside when I bought it so I'm going to leave it outside to dry out then move it under plastic when there's a chance of rain.
Keep going!

Is it really as blue as it appears in your photo? Gorgeous! Nice find, Jai.

Those ultra-blue glaucous Echeverias can take lots and lots of sun, given a period of adjustment. I like to give mine as much sun as possible so they are extra bright and stay compact. Keep your eyes out for mealy bugs hidden among the base of the younger leaves. Those particular insects have great camouflage on the glaucous plants.

Yep, it's pretty blue. It also has weird purplish tints to it that are hard to see unless the lights hit it right. I'm thinking it may be a hybrid of E. cante.

For my Mammillarias I have a systemic insecticide because mealie bugs are otherwise unreachable under deep spination. Once this plant is dry, when I do water it I will include the insecticide just to be safe.

OK, I am so hooked. After joining this group about a week ago I have become hooked on succulents looking at all the wonderful plants everyone has. I really wasn't planning to start a collection, but I went a local nursery and found these little guys. I have 6 identified so far. I was thinking I may have to wait for blossoms on some of them. When I give up and can't figure the rest out I will post them on here for help.

Thumb of 2018-07-04/wilmarosebud/d9f708

As I get them planted I will post those photos.
