Well, I am much happier with my Homepage. I got rid of the Inspirations completely and replaced it with Recent Threads which I found on a box on the left in the Customize Page. I also got rid of the Calendar of Events and put back the Recent Community Ideas. And in the last box of those three across I now have newest comments to the plants database.

So I am putting back the things I was used to seeing and that I want to see.

What fun. I just finished customizing my home page, so everything is at my fingertips. Hurray!
I love the way the new tool bar at the top of the page works. Everything right where it is easy to find and use, no matter where I am while using the site. Hurray!

I'm loving the changes. Big Grin

Did anyone say what the red bell is for top right? I went through the pages of this thread and didn't notice anything. I'm on iPad so can't mouseover.

Missingrosie - you have to copy the URL from your browser at the page you want and paste that in the second box in the earlier discussion.

Thank you. I don't like to tap on anything I'm not sure what it might do.

I almost reported Dave to Dave earlier on when trying to give him a thumbs up and missed Hilarious!

Trying to read thru the questions, crabbing, answers, cross posting is really making my eyes cross. Not anyone's fault. It's kinda funny after awhile. I'll see a question and then a new question and then a misunderstanding and then an answer to someone using their actual name (mine = Joan) when the question had been asked with the User Name (mine = texas_flower_child) and I'm like 'whoa!' I'm sure, I think, that when I start to customize my home screen (do I know what that is? oh, yeah, I do) I'll be able to weed thru this forum and find what I need.

@tx_flower_child,
Others seem to have missed your post.
I agree I also feel left out of the loop when people start calling each other by their "real" names. Makes me feel like I am not a member of the group. Yes, I also have to scroll back through all the posts to find out who they are referring to or responding to. I would very much like people to select one name and stick with it; there are enough changes and surprises to keep up with around here; it would be nice if each person had just one name. Thumbs up

I wasn't sure when I first logged onto the updated site so I clicked on it ... it's our System Messages!

If you look to the upper right of each post, you can see folk's names. That is where many of us get people's real names. And because we know some of the folks and their real name is shorter than their screen names, it IS easier.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.

OK, so I wanted to put a link to the seed swap I am in. There is no "chainlink" icon on my screen, I have a envelope, a bell and a person. So I thought maybe there is no link icon until you make a link? So I tried to put in the link per the above instructions. I logged into garden.org in another window, found the seed swap (DND's ALL SEEDS SWAP) and opened it. I copied the URL, pasted it into the box, but then I get an error message saying there is a problem with the URL. Hmm.

@Dave, on the mobile site, do you think it would be an option to have the "quick link icons" [please refer to photo #1] on the outside of the menu, while leaving the actual menu items (database, etc) inside the menu, such as: [refer to photo #2]?

As much as I like the "customizable" home page, I do have one suggestion -- @Dave , would it be possible to make that HUGE "National Gardening Association" a little smaller? It just seems out of proportion to me...

I will leave with this. I got up, took a shower. Cleaned out the fridge Confused . I came back to a great FULL and colorful homepage. You then click on a thread, and it is a slap in the face, to go from that home page, to that white, page with still slim text.
I have to believe, that if you can make a cool thing like a customizable home page, something can be done to make these pages happy too.

Off to spread some jelly. Now there is some color...hope not to run into cupcake Carl tonight. Smiling

Doesn't matter if y'all don't understand what I just wrote. I understand it and I guess it's just a reminder for me about something or other. I think my older bro must be on to something when he tells me that getting old is not for sissies.

So thank you Dave and all of the elves working in your shop. You've done a massive amount of work and what's especially great is seeing how quickly y'all are responding to questions and crabbing. I'll give you an acorn once I figure out where to do that. Which I will. Sooner or later. I love a grand experiment. Kudos!

That is so well said, Pam! If you read through this thread, beginning to end, it really is a hoot! It's a most confusing jumble of an excuse for a conversation. Hilarious! Just tickles my funny bone Hilarious!
