Even if they're in the database, who's going to add pictures? Sue and I decided, way back in Cubits, that we weren't going to have a rose database with thousands and thousands of empty entries. We've concentrated on roses that might conceivably be owned by our members someday.
Dave started us off with a list of about 4,000 roses, but I subsequently deleted close to a thousand of those because they were no longer available in commerce or on display in any public gardens. Since then, I've been adding the new roses offered by major nurseries every year, and I've added some that are important in rose breeding as parent plants, but we still have a lot of entries without photos. Sue and I used to dream that we'd eventually find a page in the database with photos for every rose on that page. We haven't been able to yell "Bingo" yet.
Ambrosia isn't available for sale anywhere, according to HMF. Samara is available only in Europe, and Fat 'n' Sassy is a Nor'East rose and is available only wholesale.
My life has been like a roller coaster - with lots of ups and downs - lol. As some of you might know I had been taking care of my Mom for the last 4 1/2 yrs. in my home and she passed away recently. I had to go upstate and clean out her home etc. The good news is I have another grandson - named Christian. Right now I am in the process of remodeling my kitchen. Tore up the subfloors and replaced them with a new hardwood floor, sheet rocked, taped and spackled and will paint the ceiling tomorrow - should be finished by Christmas. This week I fertilized the lawn, hilled up my roses and mulched the shrubs etc. in preparation for this coming winter.
Zuzu, glad you enjoyed the photos. Your cats are beautiful - I have a few Maine Coons, a Shetland Sheepdog and lots of Russian Singer Canary birds.
Observe, observe, observe
We are fortunate to "see" & appreciate nature in ways others are blind.
Gorgeous and very happy-looking cats, zuzu, and gorgeous rose photos, Margie. Congratulations on the new arrival in the family, and good luck with finishing the kitchen!
There's a Bella Christina, Don juan, peach drift, a lavender and a yellow one.
Its been so hot all summer and I've been really busy with work since March or April after Hurricane Matthew the temperatures came down a bit and I finally got around to planning in those last 6 rose bushes that I bought last spring and last week I went and bought 4 more so now I gotta figure out where I'm going to put them.
I may have just the spot Hurricane Matthew blew the top off of one of my young very tall pine trees I had Chris trim all the branches off of the trees as far up as he could reach on a 16 foot ladder eventually the trunk is going to have to come down because it's not a very strong pine. But now there's a lot of sunny space down there to put some roses Hallelujaht

Garden space is becoming a problem for me too! I only managed to find space for 14 of the 16 new roses, two will be potted. If I get anymore next year I will need a new bed but DH is adamant about keeping our lawn space as is. The other option is to start getting rid of other plants - an idea which doesn't particularly please me

I used to wish I could buy the house next door. I'd have more space and I'd be able to get rid of all the weeds, ivy, and blackberries my neighbor allows to creep into my garden, not to mention the millions of horrible seedlings from his oaks and privets.
One of my next door neighbours has nothing but lawn and an apple tree in their 'garden' - imagine the amount of irises and roses I could fit into all that space!
Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice!
No, Lilli, it has hardly any thorns at all. I don't know how it got its name.
It really is a beautiful rose. I wish I had a photo of the way it looks when it first opens. The bloom initially has quite a bit of yellow, which ages to a cream color on the outer petals. I took this photo after the yellow had faded to cream. I'll try for an earlier one this year.
