Ken, to my eyes, your NOID flower looks to be missing some parts. If it's the first time to flower I would wait for the next round to see if maybe the flower blooms differently.

This is my Rlc. (Blc.) Greenwich 'Elmhurst' after 4 wks. of blooming.

That last photo was taken at the break of dawn, and my camera "enhanced" the shot because of the low light. The flower is not alba. It is now a soft lemon chiffon and is still nicely fragrant.

The reason it's so hard to lose weight when you get up in age is because your body and your fat have become good friends.

Thanks, Lindsey. Initially, I thought that the petals were still "wrapped" around the lip, but had never seen that happen, so did not really know. I still don't know. Yes, it is its first blooms

I have no clue what your noid could be. Yes, perhaps the next time it flowers, it might become clear.

I've had it happen on flowers with really frilly floofy lips and I sometimes 'help' things along if I can get some of it unstuck the rest usually follows. I see the 3 sepals but just don't see the 2 petals. Was this one you bought with others as plugs? or just a random plant that you have acquired?.. Do you keep any records or a journal of your purchases? Maybe by eliminating all the colored flowers you'll be left with a short list of white bi foliate candidates.

Lindsey, I have records of every plant I have ever purchased, several thousand plugs and well over 500 blooming size or near blooming size plants. If this happens to be one of my old Lowe's rescues, I will probably never find it's name. Since I have no tag on this particular plant, I don't know where its beginnings were. If it is one of my plugs, I would have purchased those plugs at least 4 years ago. It would take a lot of research to look at every plant I have purchased and eliminate those "colored" ones. It is doable but not for a while. I am up to my eyeballs in preparing for the (soon) moving-in of all my 1000+ plants. I still have another 300+ garlic cloves to get in the ground. Perhaps, when all that is done, I can do some work on this ID.

Add the petals and a normally-formed lip, and it could be. I did not get that plant in a trade, did I, Ted?

I tried to do some minor surgery on those two flowers, separating the "lip" into two sections. I will see what happens over the next day or two.

Jim, if you're giving that beatiful orchid out for birthdays, I'll send you a tree mail when mine comes around. Hilarious!

Well, guys I think you both need to move to Tampa and join the Orchid Club to qualify for birthday orchids. Oh, and volunteer lots of time like Lindsey does as well . . !

I'm just waiting for our next Apopka trip and gonna get one of those beauties for myself. I like surprises for my birthday, so I send my daughter a "wish list" of several orchids I'd like and she chooses one or two at random for gifts for me. Some of my favorites have come to me this way - Den. crumenatum being the latest.

Btw, Carter and Holmes has those for sale again - it's the Thunderstorm Orchid that I've shown so many pictures of.

I do need to plan a trip down to Tampa this winter (well, actually Sarasota) to visit my son and daughter-in-law. If I fly, I would have to ship anything I bought while there. If I drive, that's not a problem. Whistling

Me too, Lindsey.........35X2+. That number sounds a little better to me. Thumbs up
