Thanks Elaine, the stem is actually more like a very dark burgundy color. It's quite a generous rescue orchid. Smiling

I have posted my Ceratostylis retisquama many times, but it looked so nice I had to take some more pics. I love it when you have an Orchid which is never bothered by bugs and blooms many times throughout the year.

I love your Ceratostylis, Ursula. I wish I had kept one of mine.

I know better than to ask, but I have a NOID in bloom and I simply can't find a photo to identify it. I thought I had photos of the flower of every single orchid I had ever owned, but for some reason I can't find this one. This is a bifoliate and appears to have only three sepals. The flowers are approximately 4" in diameter. The lip is still pretty much closed and I cannot see the stigmata area. There is no fragrance but the flowers just opened up a couple of days ago. Perhaps fragrance is just delayed. Can anyone help ID this particular plant?

On Thursday mornings several fellow Tampa Orchid club members gather at the University of S. Florida botanical garden to look after their orchid collection and display area.
Our orchid club has a couple of benches in that greenhouse where we grow plants up to sell.. this one has been on my wish list since I sold my last one a few years back .
The tag says Pot. Hoku Gem ' Freckles '. But I'm sure that is incorrect. It did follow me home Lovey dubby

You're right, Lindsey. It should now be Brassocattleya Hoku Gem. Potinara (Pot.) has been reassigned.

Since so many genera have changed, those that are a hybrid of many genera stand an increased risk. Now, when you see an "ara" ending genus, you can bet it has morphed into something different.

at least Brassocattleya ( Bc.) is something I can relate to and pronounce..some of the new names and abbreviations are going right over my head, and not even messing up my hairdo! Confused

Does no one have even a guess as to what this NOID is? Even its genus would help point me in a direction. I posted several photos on the 26th.

Oh, after 4 days, there is a fragrance of gardenia with a hint of honeysuckle.
