Oh Joannakat,

You made me Rolling on the floor laughing laughing so much throughout your post!!! You made my morning!!! Now I seem to remember having heard the beer thing and I know there's at least a bottle in their that my husband abandoned because he didn't like it or something!! Now need to find some smallish dishes. Oh I can cut a paper bowl down and put rocks in it so it doesn't fly away. One in my main garden and one near my seed garden to see if their trespassing in there!!! Rolling on the floor laughing this is great. I just got done weeding a whole lot more, the lawn is disappearing lol, when my husband gets back from Germany for work he is not going to recognize the lawn lol!!! Iam going to have man arms with all this pulling and digging hahaha!!! Do you have any cutworm recipes??? Because I keep finding all these fat yucky caterpillars deep under the weeds and red pupae too...fling!!! Far away!!! And I would like those to drink some beer also so that they can't remember how to navigate their way into my garden!!!

Rolling on the floor laughing this is great!!

Off to Orchards. Will try not to get plants the yard isn't ready for yet 😀

Mindi, you'll want to take pictures of those grub-like things and post questions in the appropriate forums, such as the Ask a Question forum I posted a link to. People will be happy to help you there. As for cutworms, try the cup thing from the Sunflowers for Dummies thread.

We want to do our best to keep each thread on topic--if we diverge, most likely, there's a better place for the reply.

Legalily that is Eeewww about the tomato hornworms!!! I used to keep them as pets as a kid but don't remember what they turned into.

I've got the ultimate weed decimator. Now they will be screaming "Nnnooooooo!!!' And I will be laughing. The laughing dandelion in the middle of my garden won't stand a chance with this, or any weeds that once were out of my reach!!! The glee I feel will be heard round the neighborhood.

Take a look!!! It's extendable!!!

Slugs also dissolve in salt so carry salt with you and when you see them sprinkle salt on them and they will go away. nodding nodding

Sandpaper. They crawl on it and fall apart. Buy cheapies in bulk, the big sheets, and cut them up and surround what you want to keep them off of.

Thanks @pepper23 Great ideas on the salt and sand paper.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but don't tomato hornworms turn into Hummingbird Moths???

No, but I can see how someone might think so. The hummingbird moth comes from a bright green cat that has a horn on its rear, and so is called a hornworm. But they are different creatures. Here are some nice pictures:

I tried the, "hello, where are you? Wake up please!" therapy and this morning, my black iris is showing a little, tiny, spiky thing! Really cool because I just planted it a few days ago! Hurray!

Joannakat,

How exciting!! I collect anything I see that is black. That little bud was ready to go. You must have been it's cheerleader and so it grew fast for you!!

Happy that you are happy!!

To the poster who mentioned it, Thanks for the salt and sandpaper idea.

By the time I was done with the kids ice cream social and singing on stage, then dinner it was too dark to try the drunk slugs idea. I know it will work. Today is a new day and there is a nice old beer in the fridge ready for it!!

Congrats on your black iris!!

Cheers,

Mindi

The rest got the sink tipsy!!!

I took pictures. No picture and it didn't happen lol. Thank you Joannakat for reminding me of the slug killing trap. My grandma had told me when I was a child. I was into gardening way back then.

Joannakat,

I guess my slugs haven't fallen off the wagon yet lol. No slugs. Iam very surprised. The few that I flung were very small so they probably need to grow up more, or I have less than I thought!!

And I know this trick works. It worked for my grandma so I have seen it "live" lol!! When I do catch some slugs in the beer trap I will definitely show you!!

😀

Yes, the thin paper may have been too much to navigate. I do have a frisbee. Perhaps that would work better. Mush it in the dirt!!
