Hilarious! Hilarious! Some of my plants were a little on the deaf side too when I told them to shape up and look their best when they are struggling. Just like my kids when they were little - selective hearing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I have never apologized but I can'tell bring myself to thin out plants. I told my husband to make me thin this time so I don't end up with the lot dying. He just rolled his eyes and said he has tried that before and couldn'the get me to.
Have a great day all!

On rare, and I do mean rare, occasions when it is a plant I tried to keep going but finally decide it is not worth the effort.

With some weeds it is: DIE you SOB, DIE, DIE, DIE!

I know the feeling. But that is why they are called "weeds".

I used to have a Chameleon plant at the old house which I loved the color, but it went everywhere and I couldn't keep it out of the grass. It's one of those that didn't make the move to the new house!! nodding nodding And yes RpR I uttered some of those words too Whistling Whistling

Right now I have Canadian Thistle in the south garden and I have even though poured brush killer straight out of the bottle on it
while that stem dies it just keeps moving farther north.
Now it is in the lawn along the alley that borders the garden to the west.
I hate to say it but this spring I am going to have spray some better than average weed killer on that part of the garden and lawn as the thistle, creeping Charlie and quack grass has become more than just an annoyance.
I had some weed killer that I got out of my late grandfathers shed, which was thirty plus years that worked very well but that is gone now and the new stuff just does not work as well without screwing up the peonies planted there.

I dread the thought but I may have to dig up and replant the whole row of peonies there as the weeds are in the roots and some just are not doing well as they should .
One old tree peony is getting worse every year.
They are on a hill and I think I may have to put in a rail road tie border on the garden so I can raise the soil five or more inches and plant them more or less level.
Plus I will no longer be fighting quack grass and creeping Charlie on the garden edge.

I am definitely not sad to take a chainsaw to all of the shrubs around the house. I hate shrubs more than weeds. I do have some bergenia that I don't want but am so sorry to have to let go because they are in such great condition.

I love shrubs but not around a house, they belong out in the open where they can grow large and look nice and do their thing. Hate to see overgrown bushes crammed up next to the house where they don't fit and have had bad hair cuts over and over....or worse yet, they try to grow out toward the light and the back side is dead.... blah! Thumbs down

There are short shrubs that you can grow next to the house and look good. I have Little Miss Kim lilac next to the house and it looks good. Summer sweet planted on either side of it last year and it also remains on the shorter side and will look good. It's all about scale and making sure you compliment them with actual plants to soften them up some. Smiling

I have some Little Miss Kim by the house and love them. Amanda are you talking a Summer Sweet Clethera? Love it! Also Little Henry Sweetspire is a fun shrub that works close to the house.

The Miss Kim, does it have full size flowers on it or are the blooms smaller than the old fashioned lilac? I have seen them at the store alot, but never seen them bloomed.
