Ronnie, one of the Ipomoea setosa seeds germinated nicely as if it were fresh instead of being old. It required no chipping of the seed coat.

Did your plant get huge? It grew and bloomed in the first season, correct?

A second petunia plant bloomed, sibling of the one with spots. It's interesting to see how the genes work.

Do you recall when in summer it bloomed? Did seeds ripen outside or did you have to bring the plant indoors to let seeds ripen there?

I don't recall exactly when seeds ripen outside but I would say by August, they ripen up pretty fast. This one just self seeded in a pot I had another plant in. I find petunia seedlings all over in spring.
Usually my petunias room seed bloom fairly early if I start them inside, around mid June. A tad later for the self seeders and w/s seeds.

Oh sorry Joseph I had petunias on the brain...Setosa for me blooms around the end of July into August. My seeds always ripened outside. Keep in mind it is an early morning bloomer...they wilt up fast.

Joseph, I've had just one seedlings that is similar to the one you posted on the 29th, at time 8:03 Not exactly what that curled leaf form is supposed to produce... If y'all like Petunia, you ought to take a look at the 'Spellbound'' Hybrid series, with 4 to 6 inch flowers, offered by Burpee...
Waiting on some 30 feet of nylon Trellis, for all those seeds I started- overloaded ! Was looking all over the place for 'Raiko' & then realized I had misspelled it on the label...But Ronnie, yours look just fine, no matter what the name is.

Usually a curled cotyledon pair indicates the plant will show a phenotype that will be different and exciting.

Here are some more views of the MG labeled as Ipomoea magnusiana. I've noticed there is a leaf size gradation, with the largest leaves at the plant base, becoming gradually smaller down the vine. It's kinda cool to see.

Here are views of the seed pod developing. They're getting fat.

Gnarly cotyledons of Ipomoea setosa from a 12 year old seed.

An Ipomoea nil seedling with light green tissue is forming a new leaf.

3 seedlings of a mutant cultivar of Ipomoea nil. Flower color should be blue but flower form should be different from the normal funnel in the first 2 plants.

I had to start another Ipomoea lindheimeri seed growing to replace the plant I had been growing the past 2 years. That plant rotted or something else happened over the winter. This next plant will not get any water during the winter.

I have to have my fragrant flower morning glories!

It's just amazing to me because you have so many different species at all stages of growth that need different kinds of care!
