It's been quite a while since my last post on the NGA, bc of health issues, but I plan to add more late/extended bloomers this year. If anyone has suggestions for late blooming daylily cultivars that do well in zone 6a, or further north, please feel free!

I also have a large mixed raised garden to start on sod removal. It'll be long and narrow, for our postage stamp property. I've already got some ornamental grasses growing there, and it's the largest sunny area in our backyard for more daylilies ..... Whistling Whistling .......and hopefully some dwarf evergreens will mosey their way in this year, as well!! Whistling Smiling

The DH has been digging in his heels on this project, though! Now, my man, who absolutely *hates* to mow, bc of his allergies,, is so resistant to change, that even attempting to convince him with the idea that there would be less lawn to mow, is completely moot! Confused (In his defense, though, he was twelve when his Father passed suddenly of a massive heart attack, so, understandably, he views any kind of change as ripping the rug out from underneath him.) Reasoning with him that it's an investment in the value of our home doesn't work that great either. He's resisted all 10 gardens that I've installed, thus far, but, when all is said and done, he realizes, and tells me, that it's not all that bad after all! Hurray! Hurray! This garden is a major contention, so please send good vibes and/or prayers my way, for the marriage, my friends! I just might wind up working on improving the "dirt garden", on the nasty neighbor's side of our house, if things get shaky with the DH. Not ideal, bc the neighbor is a bully, and we really don't want to spend any money to upgrade that side, bc he deserves nothing better to view, but I only work on what little is there (mostly weeding, lol) when he's at work anyway. Big Grin

...saga to be continued... Sighing!

Well, at least your DH is participating in the project. Mine prefers the computers and electronic toys. Would be so much nicer if he is out there with me turning sod into garden beds! Maybe in a blue moon! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! But I wish you the best nonetheless. May the project bring you closer together in the marriage and many beautiful blooms and beautiful garden space to share in the years to come. Crossing Fingers!

Oh no, Karen. He's not out there with me at all! His allergies keep him indoors. So the TV is his preference. I'm right there with ya! The only time I can drag him out to help is when I need major muscle! I try to discuss with him, out of respect, what I'll be digging up next, if it's a larger garden, simply bc it is change. He tends to look at me like I need to seek help for my addiction Green Grin! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Green Grin! (as I'm sure many gardeners experience from their significant other, as well!) There'll be lots of give and take coming up! Crossing Fingers!

Dana I learned over the years that if I want landscaping done of any kind (does not include mowing) I do it myself because if I wait on DH to assist it won't get done. He hates doing it unless it involves large motorized equipment that he can "drive" then he helps Whistling Whistling And at least when I need something really big done that he can use his motorized equipment it does come in handy. Hence I order tools and equipment that I can operate myself and just consider it good exercise Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Whistling Whistling

That is my stance too, Ginny! And I think I am winning! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Not only do I get the exercise and sunshine that I need but I also get to enjoy beautiful flowers and their scents while at it. Like your DH, he detests being outside and get dirty in the soil. The only things he will help out with "gardening" is troubleshooting gardening equipments and financing the purchases of them. Guess I should be happy with that. At least he is involved enough to get me the motorized equipments that I need to help make the work easier.

My DH doesn't mind getting dirty (he used to do dirt work) he just hates gardening!!! I ask him after he has mowed if he noticed this awesome flower that was blooming and his response is always, no I was mowing Blinking Blinking He does appreciate the "overall" look when it's done, just doesn't notice individual flowers or plants. As long as I'm doing it myself at least I can do it "my way" Whistling Whistling Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Dana, praying that your health is improving. Gardening is great therapy for the entire body. As far as late blooming daylilies are concern, I would recommend One Last Pie, Genesta, After Awhile Crocodile, Sandra Elizabeth,
Bitsy = blooms none stop, Bermuda Coral, Last Snowflake and Autumn Wood.

Ginny, me too! Let me rephrase a bit. Honestly, I prefer that my DH isn't out there with me bc gardening and landscaping/hardscaping are my therapy....keeps me *mostly* sane! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
I'll mow the back and side yards (on the very few days where I don't have any gardening work planned), and I used to mow the front yard, but it's a very steep hill, and I just don't have the strength, since my septic infections hit in 2013. They kicked my toukas! Sticking tongue out Those darn infections also slowed me down with my gardening in general and with the walking mower. Glare He mows much faster than me.....saves gas.... nodding nodding ...And our yard is too small to get a riding mower, but I too use all the power equipment! I just love it!! My Mother gets a bang out of the idea that I use power tools, etc. more than my DH!! She always buys him hand tools for Christmas, and tells him that I'm not allowed to touch them Hilarious! and I always ask her, "Where's mine?!" (To this day she hasn't bought me any tools) Well, nbd, I just use his anyway!! Whistling Whistling Rolling on the floor laughing Whistling

Mike, Thank you for the prayers! I need all the help I can get! Thank You! It's a condition that can only be managed. (I see a therapist, if you catch my drift)....

Thank you for the recommendations, as well! Thank You! I'll look them up! I've also combed through the Sept, Oct, and Nov blooms threads and found a few that were blooming in my zone and in zones near mine, during those months. Stellas are the only reblooming cultivar that actually reblooms in my gardens, so extended blooming cultivars are what I'm after. Which daylilies in your list are extended bloomers?

How about extra early's? Is there anything that begins blooming before Stellas? Confused Whistling

Black Eyed Stella and Endless Heart are usually the first two in my Z:5 garden. Use the same method you employed for the lates and check out the EE and E in the May/ June threads.
Bitsy goes none stop, then Black Eyed Stella, On And On, Stella's Sparky, Stella's Pink Pretty and Stella's Ruffled Fingers. It is best to start a new thread in this regards so that we don:t go way off topic and get scolded. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
