I agree!
Peter, how long have you been growing daylilies?

Karen, you have quite a nice list too.

Ginny, I'm with you on Picasso's Intrigue. It's gorgeous.

Diana, you have the best list of all. Congratulations on that new grandson. He's adorable.

James, as usual, your list is enviable. I wish I could see your garden in bloom.

I'm not adding many this year as I need room for seedlings. I've also learned there are other flowers I can grow Hilarious! and have just participated in my first seed swap. Now I have over 100 new things to try. That being said, I'm getting
Flying Blue Dragon
Bob 265 - a poly seedling
Give Me Five - a new poly from Don Herr

I'm looking for Pink Lemonade Party. Cindy or anyone who has it and wants to trade let me know.

I have been growing for 18 months now LOL. I'm up to 1000 registered cultivars, I did remove about 60 cultivars in fall to make room.

I still overbought what I planned on. So More stuff will need to move come fall.

I rented an acre of land to grow out on since come spring I will have roughly 5000 seedlings...

All new purchases will be potted and greenhoused till fall. I had too many issues this season with poor growth of new stuff becuase of how bad of a season we had.

Peter, you might want to stick with buying cars! Much less work, and only so much space in the garage! You have to admit
that the two are similar in that they both depreciate a lot in the first few years. It would be nice if I could grow a new car!

Several years ago, I went gung-ho buying plants like you seem to be doing. Good thing you are young and have a wife who
shares your passion. For me it was just unwise. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of all the possibilities and
the satisfaction that "I did that". I only have half the seedlings that you have, and that is more work than I want to do.

I don't know about cars being much less work, I do know it was not as enjoyable for me as growing daylilies so it seemed like a lot more work! I admire Peter's enthusiasm and his finances!
Just doing the research to pick out so many daylilies in such a short period of time would overwhelm me. I have reached my goal of 200 named varieties and just trying to come up with a list of replacements for the culls is very time consuming. I am having to make a conscious effort to avoid Stamile daylilies, everything they grow seems to appeal to me, and I would really like to have more variety in the mix. With so many thousands to choose from, the hardest part seems to be picking out ones that have the traits I want and can still fit my limited budget.

Oh WOW, Peter. I think you just about outdid everyone on here with new additions and seedlings in the span of time of 18 months. I have about 100 seedlings and it is already overwhelming. Can't imagine growing 50 times that!

Deryll, I can certainly identify with that. My reward will be seeing the flowers for the very first time on my seedlings. For now I hope my seedlings will survive this winter.

Larry, I totally agree with you about Stamile's daylilies. They hybridized some of the most gorgeous daylilies out there. I am hoping to add Green Spark and Split Review in as well as Little Surfer Girl and Little Mucho Minto the near future.

I won't lie, I do have youth on my side, I'm 32, my wife is 28... So we at least have to put our fair share in.

I know it seems like work to some (especially my wife) It's honestly a labor of love for me.. It relaxes me, it distresses me... It gives me great joy to know that I will have a bunch of new potentially exciting flowers bloom in my seedling beds next year.

I even get great joy buying and sharing others hard work.... to see the blooms on their plants, and know all the hard work that went into their passion.

Larry, I am with you at 200 or so named, and like you, I am also buying a few to replace others. Also with you on the limited
budget as well! Social Security isn't like winning the powerball! Fun doing the research, but a HUGE selection to consider.

Karen, I see you might have Midnight Castle in your future. Very nice. I have Romeo Prince. It bloomed nice but the plant
didn't like our droughty summer this year. Hoping it does better next year. The one I want is Max Factor. Larger bloom,
but fewer ruffles.

As for the work, Peter, I am with you on that as well. There are days when I come in at night barely able to get through the
door and to the shower, and wonder why I do this to myself. I must be crazy! But I enjoy it. Not quite double your age.
When I go to my daylily meetings there are not many young people involved, so I am happy to have your youth and enjoy
your enthusiasm. I wish there were more like you.

I got Blazing Saddles the other day. Hoping to add some heavy eyes to some seedlings.

Deryll, guess we will see if I get MC. I am sure someone will come along in the last hour or two and want it more than I do. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! I fell in love with it last year when Shive(Debra) posted a pic of it on Gardenweb. SO Beautiful! I don't know how many daylilies I have acquired after seeing Debra's awesome pics. She really has a good eye in capturing the beauty of daylilies.

Well, I have just purchased

I am starting to mine sculpted genes. As well, Char is helping me how to go about it with what is available in Australia.

Also purchased

because I cannot purchase Piston's 2017 release ATOMIC ORANGE.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

I will have to say that Tom Polston is way too expensive for me. I have seen him as a guest speaker twice, and just recently
he showed photos of some really nice futures that will be coming out. When I say really nice, I mean REALLY NICE!!! Many of
his are smaller than I like, but some of the futures are in the 8 inch size. He lives here in Ohio.

Spectral Elegance didn't do well for me at all. It does not like our cold winters.
