Thanks, Gene. I will go look up that other post. I don't have any plans right now to travel that way, but we do have friends in MN so we could get to WI sometimes.

Stush, that is a pretty impressive list too. Lots of great Sans. I'm way behind you two.

I hope he has it somewhere as a file and he just copied and pasted! I do that with recipes all the time. I'd never try to type them all in.

Karen, I keep it on an Excel spreadsheet with full info from when I got it, by whom, price, size, etc. So it was easy to copy and paste it. Also keep pictures of when I got it, and every so often an update. I do this because I have to. No memory what so ever. After retiring, got to do something with the computer. Should see my trading list spreadsheet. Every plant I gave to and who and address, and every plant I got from who and when.
At work back in 2008, I kept tabs on every purchase I made, every piece of equipment we had, a print, part list and routine form. I made my own starters, kept up-dated and renewed parts. I really miss that.

You sound like my husband, Stush. We used to have huge inventories of everything we owned complete with date purchased, price, serial numbers, etc.

I have thought I should start one on trades. It's hard to remember who sent what plants, and I do like to go back and let them know when things do well.

I have so many excel spreadsheets already that I hate to add any more. All of the record keeping takes so much time to keep up.

Stush, et al. I am old and a paper and pencil type guy. The older I get the worse my typing gets. Yes, I would love to have a searchable data base with all my plant info in it. It would indeed make life easier. But, I do not have the patience or time to convert now. If I was a young buck I would definitely be putting all info into my computer. Gene

Aw, it is something that could be done a bit at a time. You'd eventually get there. I'm still thinking of doing it and I'm probably older than you are. Of course, I'd be adding plants to the collection faster than I could ever put them in!

I understand. I was the same way until my company put a computer in front of me and gave me no instructions. First was our monthly safety reports then purchasing. And the list went on and on. Got used to recording everything and everyone. Habit now. Spreadsheet started for plant purchases then trading list then gifts to me and so on. Even my powerful Excel spell checker sometimes don't have a clue of what I am trying to spell. This keeps my mind sharp.

I did Quicken for years. Every receipt got entered, every credit card had it's file, every financial form got entered. It was sort of nice to have the data right handy, but it grew to be too big a burden, and with great relief I've given it up.

At one time I was offered the job of being the parts manager. Stuck inside and in a cage. Doing almost daily inventories. Lots of paper work. Gee, I said no thanks. I hate typing, forms, bookkeeping, any thing related to taxes, taking inventory. To me it is all "busy" work. OK, I realize someone needs to do it just not me please. Gene

I'm pretty much with you on that. Paperwork isn't fun, and it's never ending. I hate taxes too.
