A moment of silence.... I lost one of my Sansevieria. A rare one, will be hard to find another. Now I am back down to only 116 species. When they bloom, I run around with a small paint brush and act like a bee, so to speak. Planted 4 nice red berries last week. Another 6 today. Under lights, bottom heat. Have my finger crossed. It is a very slow process but I am always hopeful that I have crossed something with something else and wind up with a unique and interesting plant. Here are pix of the 5 pots I have now of seedlings. I think they are about 2 years old. Most all Sans. look the same when they are young. Not sure how long it will take before any ID can even be attempted. Gene
Nice! None of my Sans have pupped like that. They always send up new plants from the soil. I don't have this one, so I don't know how it grows. That will be a big new plant!
Yes probably 10 other species that do that. S. "xaskul" Lav 23395 is doing it right now. So are several S. Pinguicula. I have posted pix of those 2 I know for sure. Gene
Very neat. I had seen those, but forgotten. None of mine do that. I'll have to look for more species. I love sans because they are such easy plants to grow, even when they are neglected, they still do pretty well.
You ain't seen nothing yet. Someone asked me so I just counted pots of Sansevieria. Each pot has anywhere from 1 to 15 plants in it. 295. About 1/2 of the succulents I have. About 1/3 of the total number of house plants I currently have. Gene
Wow! That would be fun to see in person. How long have you been collecting and growing them? Do you sell to your local nurseries? Around my areas, only the most common sans are sold.
My interest in house plants started the day I got home from Viet Nam. 1969. Somewhere on this site is a thread on " What got you interested in plants " I posted the story there some months ago. No, I do not sell much locally. Few people here appreciate "different." Most of my rare Sans. came from a seller in S. Calif. Of course you are welcome to come and visit. When it gets really hot there you just might enjoy being here. Maybe not the case anymore (global warming) but 4 - 5 years ago or more we only got up to 90F once every 2 -3 years. Cannot remember a 100. Gene
