I love the rooster planting with the san tail. Very cute!

All of my San Parva are blooming and smell wonderful at night! These seem to grow very quickly when they're happy!

This is one of my Noid sans. Is it in the hahnii group? Any specific ID?

I wanted to put it in the database, but can't find anything close except:
Bird's Nest Snake Plant (Dracaena trifasciata 'Hahnii Marginated') which isn't the right one.
I can't find the Hahnii jade marginata in the CAT of LIFE either. Any ideas where to put it?
@zuzu.

Hmm. I am not the best with nomenclature, haha. I've seen the word "jade" used to descibe this one, I believe due to its dark green color and I believe marginata or marginated implies the yellow banding on the edges. Maybe it is a more recent cv.? I have seen it labeled as such online, but I wouldn't say the most reputable sources (they were places selling plants). I wish I could be of more assistance. *Blush*

That's ok. I'm the same way. I have seen it advertised that way online, but am puzzled that it's not in the cat of life. Maybe zuzu can help. I added her to the last message.

(Sansevieria trifasciata 'Hahnii Marginated') very close cultivar but yours is properly called Sanserieria trifasciata Hahnii Jade Marginated. It has been around I think longer than I have been alive. It is found in 'The Sansevieria Trifasciata Varieties: A Presentation of All Cultivated Varieties', by B. Juan Chahinian (Author). It is a bird nest variety. Like I said, there are many in this group. I love the small multi leafed ones.
This one is Hahnii Marginated;

You have some beautiful ones! I think I also have the plain Hahnii. I got it from my mom and she had it over 30 years. Has it been around that long?

Karen, I think it came out in the 30's but can't find the patent info. It was the first small S. trifasciata. It was called a standard that kept in it's juvenile stage. I think it was found in a Pittsburgh nursery but don't know if that was Pittsburgh PA. Not much info could be found. If I find my book (somewhere?) I will look it up. That book now sells for over $400. I paid $60 and thought I was robbed.
Juan Chahinian is still active in Sansevieria and sells some on Ebay. He some times post in our other forum. We have some very impressive members there. Most have been silent lately.

Stush, I remember buying from him years ago on Ebay. I have looked for that book, but never found it at a decent price. You're lucky you got it for $60!

Many have asked him to make a update. I know the book will sell through the roof.
Hermine Stover used to post on our forum and was asked to update her book. She gives it out free on line;

It is a wonderful read. I have enjoyed it many times. I wish I had a copy of the original work. It sold for $19.95 and now can't be found anywhere.

Thanks for mention Stover's book, Stush. I've gotten it, and will enjoy it. I agree that Chahinian should do an update and it would sell very well. There are a lot of snake plant addicts around.

So, are these also Sans? I finally found something that will survive this area that borders the concrete patio, it gets a lot of dog pee run off. They have done really well and are filling in like I can't believe, so many things I have tried there have died.

Definitely, yes, Jonna. I'll let Stush tell you which one you have.You're lucky to live where they can grow outside. They're very hardy and do grow quickly when they're happy.

Oh to be able to grow them outdoors! I have Juan Chahinian's book on the Trifasciata varieties, I bought it years ago when I lived in Maine. Interesting to know it's so sought-after.

Wonderful, Sue. I wish I'd bought it way back when!

We had a trip to Florida last Christmas and it was so interesting to see the sans growing outside everywhere we went. They were all blooming and looking so happy. Many were taller than I'd ever seen in a home.

Jonna, Lucky you. Yes and it's the common hahnii called Sansevieria trifasciata hahnii. Mother of all the others. Check around to see if it starts to change like producing offsets with yellow in them.
Books on Sansevieria are a better investment than Gold and Silver. Purchase brand new at $20 and 20 years later sells for $1000. Like all big deals, who knew?

Karen, You asked about the age of hahnii. Just found my book and Juan said; 'First dwarf cultivar and direct parent of most of the other dwarf varieties, this plant was discovered in New Orleans, at Crescent Nursery Co. by W. W. Smith Jr. .... patent No. 470 and was dated June 3rd. 1941'.
