Just spent the afternoon with my best friend, who checked her teenager into the hospital yesterday for a suicide attempt. This world is very stressful right now.

Good idea, Liz. I wish Connor had told someone how he felt...unfortunately, nobody had any hint of this coming. Thank you all for condolences. Male suicides are MUCH greater than females at any age. And young people are so vulnerable nowadays. It's a crazy world and just so stressful now.

I worked for 3 years in residential treatment with teens with mental health issues. A lot of it was depression, parasuicidal/suicidal behavior, and violent acting out toward family members. It is, indeed, an epidemic. Cuts across all socioeconomic classes, too.

I sadly have known too many young ones that ended their pain. When my son was 14 he was a pall bearer in a female classmate's funeral. Other than him becoming a father there was never a time I was prouder.
Sadly so many don't understand.

Thank you. Yesterday I was in Houston for his funeral. A lot of people stood up to eulogize him, including my DD's own two children. Everybody's really going to miss Connor. Anyone who's ever felt a bit "different" from most people knows how challenging life can be when education gets more challenging.

Linda, I am so sorry for your loss.

I haven't been on this thread for a while, but this weekend my granddaughter's stepsister's father committed suicide (both girls are 9 years old). He has suffered from depression and diabetes for years and at this point they are not telling his daughter what happened. It is his only child. He was a Christian counselor but no one had a clue what he was thinking. Prayers for his family, especially his daughter are welcome.

Ginny, how awful for that child and her family. Sometimes during low moments it is hard to see the light at the end of a long tunnel. Prayers for the entire family. Our community just had a walk as a fund raiser to raise suicide awareness

Sometimes it's beyond our comprehension why these things happen. So sad for the family!

I'm just afraid someone at the funeral will say something and she'll find out from someone other than her mother. It just breaks my heart. I met him once and he seems very nice. He was not a deadbeat dad. He had heR every other weekend and some during the week too they were close. They think it might have had something to do with the meds.

And that is a huge problem with these meds. Everyone is different. We have made great progress but STILL in infancy
