Fortunately, I live on a slope, so the rain just passes on by. The only flooding is some minor water in the basement.

The people that were lucky enough to not have their homes burned, (and that lived in that area or nearby) will now be in danger of mudslides.

It seems like everyone is having weather challenges. Sticking tongue out

Modest rain here all day and predicted through early afternoon tomorrow. The temps are in the 50's and 60's so it's pretty mild here/ I'm fortunate to have sandy soil so flooding is rarely an issue. I'm enjoying the rain, we need every drop we can get!

Group hug 's to those of you in the freezing weather, heavy rain, or near any fire damaged areas.

Actually.... Group hug 's to all of you!!! Thumbs up

Just under 3 1/2 " or rain here, so far. It's been pounding for over an hour.
Southern California should be getting some much-needed rain too.. I don't think they've had any yet this season

A winter recap:
3 weeks ago we started off with a day of sleet switching to a dusting of snow. Since then it's been bone chilling cold dropping into the 20 plummitting into single digits every morning. The coldest/lowest we got was 8°f three times in a row with windchills of 3°f and highs of 18-27°f. The kicker was no rain or insulation of snow on the plants, a silent drought. Yesterday was the start of false spring weather as we finally jumped to 34°f AND rain. Today well reach upper 40's and more rain. By Friday we're project for close to 70° weather Blinking with raining leading into it. Temps luke like they'll stay above freezing and a good streak of 50's. I'm not buying it as mother nature can hit us with Another "snow bomb"(whatever they cslled the system that just froze the east coast) system and zap the new growth. It haopened last uear so im holding my breath. We're not into February Yet, so it's possible
Gimme it and I'll grow it!

We are supposed to have another day of January Thaw today. Yesterday was so nice, but about half the snow we had melted. Guess the other half will melt today. Then rain tomorrow more on Thursday turning to freezing rain and snow. Blinking Then back to single digit temps.

Don't know the amount of rain we got yesterday, but it was a nice soaking light rain, last night, same thing, no heavy downpours here. Currently it's 51 with a high of 60 today.

Today is the first day of January where we are above freezing. Not the usual sort of start to the new year in NC. My temps have been a bit cooler than Gabe's, but we had a dry freeze, followed by a couple inches of snow that didn't melt because of the below freezing temps. Lots of people left their taps dripping at night to keep their pipes from bursting as the temps dipped to about 9 degrees. Houses in the south have no insulation in the walls. My radiator pipes kept my basement and water pipes warm; except for the kitchen sink on an outside wall that needed minding.

Now the snow is melting. Need rain but, unlike Charlotte, we haven't had any yet. Going this week from 20 to almost 70. Poor plants are always so confused.

Since yesterday we got 2" of rain. Hurray! No rain at the moment and it's really pretty looking outside, the Japanese maple has water droplets all along the branches that look like little diamonds in the light.

Lots of rain, with more on the way. Water soaking in nicely. Temps are fairly mild, here in N. CA. Creek is filling, but no danger here of flooding. As some have mentioned, the fire-damaged areas may have mud slides.

News report says S.CA in some areas got 5 inches of rain in the recent storm.

My rain gauge shows 4 inches of rain fell here.

I have insurance and tree estimates going on through the day. A huge stone pine broke in half and fell through my fence and into my neighbors yard. D'Oh! Since insurance is involved, I can't touch anything until their investigator comes over.

sorry to hear of your damages rob, and others i am crossing my fingers that the swinging temps and rain and sleet condition do not wreak havoc on your gardens. Group hug

i spent a sleepless night with the wind and rain gusting against the bedroom wall. i guess we got a fair amount by the empty bowl that serves as a fountain.

towards the end of summer, i let the bowl dry because of the algae, and i've been meaning to clean it out, but never got a 'roundtoit'. Sticking tongue out now there's about 1 1/2" of rainwater standing in the muck...so today's chore is to clean out the bowl between raindrops. (more rain is expected today.)

stay safe everyone.

It hasn't rained here since early this morning. It's starting to cloud up again and we have 50% chance for more rain tonight, but only 0.01 in. Sighing!
