I've been reading your posts and I have been delighted. I live in the city with a garden and I don't have too much wildlife here other than birds and butterflies.
But I have been enjoying your visitors. Thank you!

My avatar is my garden's Blue-tongued Lizard. They are snail eaters: see the following crunchy video.

In south Florida for some years now, the non-native curly tailed lizards have all but taken over. It is yet unclear if they are actually eating the green or brown anoles but I can attest that the green anoles which used to be so prevalent have all but disappeared. Here is the curly tailed & they are uncommonly large compared to our little anoles.

That link was very interesting Ann. Another introduction to eat and control pests of sugar cane. That industry has a lot to answer for. I wasn't aware they hadn't stopped with the disastrous Cane Toad introductions.

Isn't it crazy?

Seems they haven't learned their lesson on anything! There is a plant (wish I could remember the name of it) that looks like a leafless vine, reddish brown in color that (was introduced of course) I think must grow faster than kudzoo. It takes over in south Fl. & will completely cover a huge pine tree in no time at all & of course kills it. It is not particular what it grows over ~~~ any vegetation will do. About 3 years ago, at the State Park, they released a (introduced) moth whose larvae voraciously eats the vine in an effort to eradicate the vine or at least control it. As usual they "say" the moth larvae doesn't eat anything else so it won't be a future problem. Uh huh. Heard it before. A thousand times.

I've never posted here. I thought it would be an appropriate forum for this comment about this article. I saw Jim Wilson's article about snakes. Everything he said is true. Even though he's not a zoologist or herpetologist, he still knows what he is talking about. I love snakes too! Like he said though, you have to know what you're dealing with, so learn to identify them. As a former state park summer naturalist, I have heard too many horror stories about people chopping up snakes that they thought were copperheads, and turned out to be some of the most beneficial creatures they could have in their yard. It's hard for us humans to overcome our baser instincts, like snakes are bad.🐍😊
I tip my hat to you.

This handsome buck was resting on my lawn in the shade the other day, looked relaxed chewing his cud.

Nobody in town plants flowers or shrubs anymore, everyone used to have lots of lovely flowers, in the ground and in planters, including me, but they started to eat it all, even my marigolds. Glare They are very bold, will go up steps to front porches and eat everything. There is nothing that they won't eat. Sighing!

There was lots of excitement in the neighborhood and on our street this morning, a young black bear was roaming around, I saw him come up the driveway, DH went out and chased him away, but within a few minutes that little bugger was in the back yard after the feeder in the willow, we made lots of noise but he wouldn't leave, then the dogs next door got in on it, barking like crazy and running around. Finally I told DH to get the hose with the power wash, he aimed at the bear and he didn't like that, he left the willow but moved to the spruce tree, and went up there about 3/4 of the way up, he stayed there for a couple of hours. I kept an eye on him and he finally got back down and was cleaning up the seeds he knocked on the ground, and licked up any little bits of suet that was on the ground. He was very stubborn and didn't want to leave, DH got the hose again and that finally annoyed him enough that he climbed over the fence and hasn't been back, he may come back tonight, but no more feeders until they den up for the winter.

I didn't think to get a photo when he was on the ground, we like to scare them off as quickly as possible so they don't get in more trouble and get shot.
