I agree

There are so many things that can go wrong with gardening... and one of the biggest is what I call "operator error." I think you'd have a hard time finding a gardener that hasn't done something similar (or worse) !

I do have a few of those trays, Allison. No challenge for my wind. The entire trays blow away pretty easily. Last year I had big bins of wintersown gallon jugs blown away- the whole bin holding 6 to 8 gallon jugs- in my back yard, the less windy side of my house. 30-40mph winds are not uncommon here...

Big bins full of 16 oz. cups had bricks in them- they were blown away too.

Looks like my first effort last year. found them around the corner of the house from where I left them. Managed to salvage a few plants that actually germinated later.

Thanks everyone! I feel better knowing I am not the only one... I still can't believe I forgot it after so much work and care!

I am watering the veggie garden every morning and checking everything... I am letting it outside but it's somewhat protected... and of course the weather has been fabulous... I am so tanned already! so exciting !!!!

But I do have good news about some of the seeds I planted outside!!!! I just checked and guess what????you guys ready!!!! The TOMATOES have sprouted!!!!! I am so happy... 100% germination!!!! so cool!!!! Karen I did just like you said... so exciting!!!! they still covered and I hope none dies!
I am counting on it!!

Karen my heart just broke at looking at your container!!!! oh brother!!!!

I agree that gardening is really a heartbreaking thing... My mom keeps telling me to just stop and just forget it... I can't... I will not let the deer, voles and other horrible creatures take away my joy... I will spray bad smelling stuff but I will not quit!

Congratulations, Kassia! You're off to a good start. After your seeds sprout, like the tomatoes, uncover them. They'll get the best light that way, and air flow to prevent damp off. Only cover overnight for frost, then uncover in the morning when frosty conditions are over.

Now don't get discouraged if the plants seem to stay very small. It's what they do at first. But as the weather warms, they'll take off fast. My tomatoes are still tiny, but once the weather stays consistently warm, and days continue to grow longer, those seedlings shoot up.

It looks like we had a good (and needed) rain overnight. But we're also in for 3 cold days and nights. I wanted to plant some of this stuff! Angry

It's amazing how fast it can dry. We had a really wet year in 2011, and I think enough rain this year. It rained all day last Saturday, over an inch. But by yesterday, the top 5 or 6" were really dry.

I'm usually thankful for my clay soil. I've never gardened in sandy soil, but I don't think I'd do well with it. Clay holds water pretty well.

Ugh! That's awful. We got less than 1/2 inch of rain, just a nice drink. But it's cold again, nights in the 30s. Yesterday was cold and damp and dreary and I was whining a lot early in the day. Then I saw the Pittsburgh weather forecast- 6" of snow tonight- and decided it wasn't so bad here after all. Smiling

Parts of Pa. are gonna get 12-18" of snow!
http://www.weather.com/outlook...

I grew up in Pgh., lived there until I was 25. Bradford Pa was always in the weather news for coldest temps, heaviest snowfall. Bradford is to get 12-18" of snow through Tuesday a.m!

I'm glad I live in Cincinnati now!

And here we are in the frozen northland with predicted highs in the 70's for most of this week! The weather gods are just trying to suck me into putting my tender little ones outside so they can get even with me for starting things early. Hilarious!

Oh I can't take any more winter... it's never this way for me because I am always hot, but thank God for good menopausal support herbs and I am doing great... the warmer the better...so far it's ok... maybe when summer hits really bad I will reconsider that statement!

I am glad I am in MA... yes, its crazy here... but today is ok... so I will enjoy it... Just took some pics of my wet garden... and look I have the first rose bud of the season... on Souvenir Du Doc Jamain... it's a beautiful red rose climber that never really grew to it's potential and every year I think of getting rid of it since it's more like a struggling thing... well I am glad I did not...
