Good price on that germination station at Overstock.

I've got to try to get some things done this weekend as well, including taking more cuttings of my coleus. Those plants just get too big too darned fast.

I really need to get organized and decide on everything that needs to be started for our MG demonstration beds and plant sale. I've got to get seeds to everyone that's volunteered to start seeds in the next week or so.

I'm glad you're OK Linda. I was thinking of you yesterday during the tornadoes. I'm glad they stayed south of you. On radar your area didn't look good for a while there.

Thanks, Karen. We were under a tornado warning here for a couple of hours, but fortunately nothing materialized. We did get some quarter-sized hail, but thankfully no damage. My heart breaks for the people who experienced such devastation down south.

we went to HD and bought a bakers rack for more lights... I am running out of room this year quick with the plugs I bought... and the seeds I am now starting... but I have a two tray light rack that is taking up floor space and only two trays... the rack was $60.00 and not much bigger than the small rack but has 4 shelves .. Randy and I were talking over buying a big rack for the basement .. but we have to shift / get rid of some stuff if we go that way... not sure if we are going to do that or not.. we will see... but I did pick up a few more light fixtures for the new shelves .. glad they had T5's to take up less space on there

oh you guys I love this forum... you are never going to believe! I found a huge treasure on my garage today.... I found my stash of seeds!!!! Honestly I have no recollection of ever buying them... early senility???? oh well, regardless... it was a good thing because I had just made a list of seeds I wanted to try... little did I know that all those seeds on that list were right on my garage...

I decided to do a excel spreadsheet with my seed addiction,,, I mean my collection and I just came to the conclusion that I am addicted to buying seeds.... how could I forget I got seeds of Passionflower vines???? can't believe it... I am in so much trouble... oh well, just when I believed I was doing better... I only got 6 new roses this year... and they were a gift... so I was under the impression that I did well ...oh well... Sticking tongue out

I have 5 huge packs of Lavender seeds... never had any luck with them before... any tips??? Confused

Tomorrow I am starting eggplants and sweet peppers... so excited!!!! Also I have to change the nasturtions to bigger pots... those things are growing like crazy... Hurray!

Hilarious! How many seeds did you find, Kassia? How old are they?

I have wintersown lavender in the past with some success. Not stellar germination, but I did end up with a few nice plants.

Kassia--lavender is a pretty slow grower from seed. Germination is not difficult, but germination rates are usually fairly low, and germination can be a little slow (a couple of weeks). Also, the plants just grow slowly....not too likely you will get blooms your first year. It will take quite some time until the root system is developed enough to transplant into a larger pot.

I started some from seed last year in mid-march. They are still in 4" containers, presently in my cold frame. They only got to be about 4" tall during my growing season last year, so just be patient with them.

They aren't long lived here, either. I have clay soil and they don't like all the winter wet that comes with clay. My Munsteads last about 3 years. Lady only lasted a year, but I think it's actually an annual.

I didn't have luck with Lady, either. Munstead has done the best for me, although I have some Vera that is 3-4 years old.

Lavender definitely does not like to have it's feet wet....needs well-draining soil to survive our winters and wet springs.

What do you think about potting it in a soil designed for succulents or orchids? Do you think that would help with soil issues? They seriously dislike my clay too...

I think amending the soil is the only way to insure success in our soil.....not familiar with orchid potting mix, but adding in anything that will loosen the soil and improve drainage should work.

Definitely would need a sharp draining soil in a pot. I've never grown in in a pot, except a short time in a WSown jug until ready to transplant.

Yay Rick! Hurray!

I, on the other hand, am missing 2 batches of seed I purchased in February. I have a bad feeling the envelopes/seeds were accidently thrown out. I turned this house upside down looking for them. I'm so bummed Crying

I found about 30 packs of seeds most packs are still unopened plus a I found a huge ziplock bag of Hollyhocks someone gave me at one RU - plus I also found a 3x3 little bad filled with Columbine seeds, a huge bag of my own hollyhocks from last year (Black ones)...

Found today 5 bags of Freezia bulbs... they don't look that good, actually dry. I planted 15 in peat pots and left them in the garage... let's see what happened... it's going to be in the high 60s this week so I will open the garage door and see what happen...

I planted eggplants and delfiniums ... also the PassionFlower (the seeds are from 2009) again let's see what happens... I remember seeing the ones at Loggee's and they were so gorgeous - the one I have is Amore - it's suppose the be hardy in zone 6.

Thanks for the Lavender tips... I have 4 huge plants and they were planted as small plugs... I love lavender! I lost 2 good ones to the voles last year... they right by the front of the house and bloomed so amazingly... I am going to give it a try...

How about Columbines??? start indoors??? I had such a lush row of purple columbines - lost most of them... I just read that plants last only 3 years??? If I plant them this year they will not bloom right? I am planing to plant at least 15 plants this year...so I can surround one of the beds - it was such a nice boarder... this year I hope to have Calendulas around it... and hopefully next year the columbines will be back...
