I've never grown cup and saucer vines, ...only seen them in pics, but they are beautiful....soooo many seeds, so little space(under the lights). I use jiffy 100% organic seed starting mix, because we are on a tight budget, it has always worked great for me...maybe I just don't know any better. Whistling ..lol
That coffee can idea is great! Thanks, for sharing, woofie!
Kassia, I order lots from swallowtail. I always check them first, when I'm looking for something.
Got another flat planted today...Easy Wave Rosie Dawn petunias and Bacopa Blutopia. I have room for one more flat under those lights...hmmmm, what will I sow tomorrow?

Gee, maybe I should submit the coffee can idea as a tip. I wasn't sure if anyone else would think it was a good idea, since you end up burying a can that's going to sit there and rust. Rolling my eyes. Glad you guys like it!

I'm always amazed at what I learn here. Great tip with the coffee can, Woofie--I'd definitely submit it.

I'm seeing some very ambitious seed starting lists here, too. Wow! I hope everyone will keep us posted of their progress.

Love the coffee can idea... will definitely use it....

Dee thanks for the tip swallotail.. good to know... I am ordering $30.00 ... can't believe I am doing this... there used to be a place online where seeds were pretty cheap - most were 99cents and I can't think of the name...

I just went to check on the flats and surprise.... I have morning glories starting !!! they did not get the memo... but it's just so exciting!!!!

Yes, woofie, you should submit it as a tip.Anyone who doesn't want the can in the ground, could just remove the bottom, and let the plant and soil drop in the hole.
WhoooHoooo, great going Kassia!! Thumbs up Green Grin! I have been checking my impatiens two or three times a day, since I planted them, and just tonight I noticed that some have popped out the little root thingy (or what ever it is called.lol), that is heading down into the soil. I do have them on bottom heat. I was worried about trying them, because I have always just bought my impatiens, and have read where several people on line have had problems growing them from seed, so now I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Was the name of the .99 site value seeds? I don't know if they are still on line.Kassia, if you like perennials that bloom the first, on the swallowtail site, type "blooms the first year",in the search block, and you will find lots of goodies......always glad to help a fellow seed addict with their addiction. Group hug Angel

This is why I have not yet started any MGs. I know how much trouble I can get into with them! One thing I have noticed, too, is that the I. tricolor don't seem to deal well with transplanting. I. purpureas and I. nils don't seem to mind as much, but I've had real problems with starting things like Heavenly Blue or Flying Saucers too early.

I plan on growing lots of heavenly blues this year, and I'm thinking about waiting til the last minute and starting them in those tiny peat cups and soiless mix, and as soon as they are showing green, plopping them in the ground. I have always direct sowed them, and what does germinate do great, but most of the seeds don't seem to germinate.Do you all think this idea would work?

The only drawback to those tiny peat cups is that they tend to dry out quickly and I think they're really a bit too shallow for MG roots. If you want to use peat pots, I'd go with the 4" ones, and make sure to tear off the bottoms when planting out.

Sounds good to me. I haven't used them in years, but I did always tear the bottoms off before planting. Thanks, for the tips.

The ones that are sprouting are Chocolate & Sunrise Serenade (which looks really weird) ...one year I had a morning glory growing inside on a pot and it was the cutest thing because it was confined to a small pot so it grew but the flowers were really small and did not develop into a big plant... I had it on my kitchen window at the condo I used to owe.

I am ordering some 7in humidity domes and I will space them out so hopefully thy will be ok...

Oh the joy of gardening...

Your Sunrise Serenade should do just fine. I've had those little guys hang in there in 4" pots for months and bloom (but they're pretty pathetic looking). That's an I. purpurea and they're just about bullet proof! Is the one you're calling "Chocolate" a Chocolate Rose Silk? (yum, one of my faves!)

All of these seeds are 99 cents. http://www.crosmanseed.com/ I've received an order from them, but have yet to plant any.

I like to use 16 oz, Styrofoam cups for starting morning glories...just tear off the bottom half and plant the whole thing, cup and all.
