I don't know. The styrofoam might...

For tomatoes I fill the cups about 2/3 full of soil, sow seeds directly into cups. As the seedlings grow bigger, I add more soil to the top, effectively planting the seedling deeper. Seems to work well.

Just a comment on using the peat pots -- be sure to bury the top edge or it will wick moisture away from the soil and your plant will dry out...

Good point! Ha, I usually end up tearing off most of the pot when I take off the bottom, so I didn't think to mention it. Hilarious!

Thanks Chele!!!! I will look at it....
I found a site that has Ferry Morse seeds at 55% off... it's a good selection... I actually ordered the 7 inc Humidity Dome from them - their price is not the lowest on the internet but the shipping is so it was worth it for me...

Those prices look pretty good to me! At least for the few things I looked at. Couldn't find a link to shipping costs, tho. Might I ask what you had to pay for shipping? That has gotten to be a major consideration anymore!

Wolfie, I got 5 domes for and the shipping was $8.05 priority mail - I ordered last night and today I got the email that it has been shipped. I could had for $7.49 if I wanted parcel ... but I wanted quicker so I opt for that...

I found the domes at $4.50 at Greenhouse Megastore but the shipping was way more expensive for me .... but maybe it would be cheaper for you... I actually like this company- all the heavy duty plastic I got for my veggie garden ...

Yes, valueseeds was a good source for T&M seeds, and cheap.

I use those tall humidity domes for larger cuttings- they work well.

Hmmm, going to have to make a note of that place!
I've been trying to find pictures of my Chocolate Rose Silk, but the picture on your seed package looks a lot like it. I *think* that may be an I. nil; they have really neat looking foliage. I'll keep looking to see if I can find the picture I took of the MGs I had growing on my back porch a couple of years ago.

I'm not absolutely certain that this is a Chocolate Rose Silk, but one of the MG people thought it very likely was. It came in a package of Mixed Japanese morning glories.

Wolfie, I was just reading on companion plants and almost fell out my seat... for some reason it made me really laugh...I was so serious that it took me a minute to really understand it...

Does that mean that garlic will keep vampire bunnies away from my carrots? Hilarious!

Does your Chocolate have the variegated foliage? Took mine forever to bloom, but the foliage was so pretty and luxurious that I really didn't mind!

Yeah, I had asked one of the really intense morning glory people why my plant hadn't bloomed, and they just said "be patient!" I guess that variety blooms later then the other types. And speaking of other types, this is another of my favorites:

Kassia carefully take the seed coat off the leaves.. can spray with a water bottle for a few days to soften it up if it doesn't come off easy.. try not to rip it.. but they will be happier if that coat is off

I usually just spray, and the moist seed coat falls off on it's own.
