Yesterday we had a beautiful, warm, sunny day here and I spent the afternoon working in the yard. I only made a dent in what needs to be done, but it was good to finally have a sunny day. I transplanted a few things but mostly weeded out millions of volunteers. Today I woke to rain yet again.

More rain, Karen?! Glad you had a productive and beautiful day yesterday. I imagine that it only made it all the more disappointing when when you got up this morning.

Dh put my yellow frying pepper seedlings into the veggie garden yesterday along with the Red Brandywine tomato seedlings. I had totally forgotten about those. They were pretty big for the pot, but considering that we've had summer weather for the last couple of weeks, I guess I'm not surprised. Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the critters stay outta there. The deer in particular seem to like peppers.

Steven and Arlene, hope you get some 'mater germination!

Finally a warm, sunny (although very windy) day yesterday. I spent the entire day weeding, and moving a dozen plants or so. I'm still not done....sigh..... Purple dead nettle seems to be taking over our neighborhood, including my landscape beds Angry
Chickweed was everywhere the nettle hadn't taken over. So odd, as I've never had problems with either of these before.

The good news is I was able to open up some of my WS jugs that had some beautiful, big seedling in them.

Started the day today with more thunderstorms, so no gardening today.

I hear ya on the weeds. My next door neighbor has had wild violets in her yard for years and now the problem has moved on over. I have a new weed pest that I haven't identified yet. It has a rosette at soil level that looks a bit like dandelion, but its flowers shoot up to about 4 ft or so. It must be a member of the dandy family though since it sets those fluffy seeds. I fear that it's going to be all over quickly.
What seedlings do you have, Linda?

I was able to open the jugs for my calendula, foxglove, chinese houses, shungiku, zinnas and corn cockles. I was afraid to put them in the ground yet, as we have some pretty cold temps predicted this week. We're still 2 weeks away from our last frost date here.

I really wish everything here grew as well as my weeds did. Our harsh winter killed a lot of things, but apparently NONE of the weeds.

I planted out some annual Chrysanthemums and BB's a few weeks ago and they are starting to grow now, but so far I've held off on the others as they are too small.

Arlene, I agree

I hope so too Bev!

My jugs of perennials have been open for weeks. I open to let water evaporate in the few short hours with no rain. Then I flip them closed, without taping, when the rain is coming back. It does deflect some rain, but they never dry out at all. Most are yellowed from too much water. These annual forget-me-nots are the weirdest looking ones. The cotyledon leaves are the most yellow, that's OK, their job is done. But some of the true leaves are looking yellow-orange.

My few jugs of annuals are still taped closed. I have just a few sprouts of marigold, zinnias, Yvonne's salvia, and euphorbia marginata. Good germination on cardinal climber (ipomoea multifida) and those have been open for weeks. I might actually pot those up, which I never do. But the area where I plan to plant them won't get much sun until the plants are bigger. (If the sun ever comes out, that is).

Those do look strange, but the new leaves still look great on them, Karen. I have never tried Yvonne's salvia before, but it's one I've got on my list to get one of these days.

I have foxglove that I ws last year starting to bloom now. I should have started more this year so I would have more for next year. Maybe it's not too late...long as I baby them along and don't forget to water. I also have bb's starting to bloom. I ws some of them this year. Those have not bloomed yet, but had some reseeded ones that are huge now.

Sounds like a good start, Arlene-on the seedlings, not the weeds! Calendula is one of my favorites and who doesn't love zinnias?! Last year the butterflies were in a frenzy over them.

It's still pouring rain, and I mean POURING. We've had 2.2" of rain already in May, and this is only early on the third day of the month. I haven't gone out to look at my WSown stuff in several days so I don't know if it's even alive. And the high today is supposed to be 49°, while our norm is 70°. So much for global warming. I have to do my Mom's grocery shopping today in cold rain- I hate that!

Also, I have miserable volunteers plants covering all my beds. Beyond ridiculous

Larkspur volunteers, round 2. I have already cleared them once this year. And I haven't grown them in two years. Can't get rid of them.

Ohhhhh! Strange how things can be so tough to get rid of in one zone and won't grow worth a darn in others.

Mostly just rain here but today it was warm and sunny. It's supposed to be nice tomorrow too but I've got to work. Hopefully Friday will be nice! I've got a nice large bucket to plant this mater in when he gets a bit bigger.
