So I've had this nice little plant of Den. Andree Millar for a couple of years. It has grown, and looked healthy but shown no signs of blooming

Until . . . maybe ??

Orchids
Im not left with much to anticipate but growing some more nice plants. give me sometin to do Whistling

I had to repot this one as it got knocked over and out of its clay by a freakish ice storm. I managed to get it inside before it got too many leaves damaged. The thin leave ones didnt take a hard beating like the fat leafed catts did.
Got this tree fern pot hanging around so I put this encycliia tampensis in it. Buried the roots down into the tree fern. Wrapped some sphagnum around it then attached that with a floral wire around the base of the moss. Then back down thru the tree fern effectively attaching it. It doesnt wiggle Hurray!

plant has 15 spikes and i hope they make it ya know..

Its a few years old and has about 25 bulbs so it should be established enough to make it thru this bloom season. You can see some of the leaves damage and might need a few bulbs removed afterwards but for now just a new home

Ive mounted a rhyncholaelia glauca in one like this also in the same way. I had to cut some bad bulbs off this one already. They got broken and these are good about putting out 2 new ones when it loses one. I was happy to cut a few off this one. They are strong good growing small plants that bloom easily when matured. This plant should dig right in and make the tree fern part of the roots.

I like the way these are all natural growing mounts and we see how these plants do in them. I like them!!

Looks like you've got that puppy nested nicely in there, Kelly. Good thing you rescued it from the hail, those little flower stems sure are thin, aren't they!

I've got a little Enc. tampensis that Jim gave me last year, and it's in a tree fern pot, too. It has about 5 spikes on it, so thanks for reminding me to go look at it, it's up in a big tree out in the yard.

They are looking good there in their Tree fern pots! Thumbs up

Instead of Sphagnum moss I like to use Coconut fiber, it works well for me to anchor plants! Nurseries sell it by the foot.

This noid den has sent out a smallish keiki, which has buds as well. It is just amazing at times that even if keiki is small, when orchid is ready to make buds, it will do it regardless Big Grin This will also be a yellow noid den, same as the other one I have in bloom already this May.

Great news on a survival story, my Bl. Chia Lin which I thought was a goner last summer, with a terrible scale infestation, then a bout with the Black Plague. It has a new good looking leaf with a sheath. Keeping my fingers crossed and my sprayer handy.
Thumb of 2013-05-26/dyzzypyxxy/5e0c23

Also anxiously awaiting my first look at Bl. Star Parade 'Volcano Queen' which Jim helped me ID from a broken tag when I got it last fall of the death rack at Lowe's.

But I still would keep an eye on the Chia Lin, I do see some dots which may or may not be alive, I can't quite tell from here.

I will, thanks! I've been swabbing it off with a paper towel and water, and it is outside the cage where the natural predators also patrol.

I see geckos on that plant often. I hope they find the scales tasty!

heh, send some Geckos my way!!
The rain has stopped here and the sun was out today. It was certainly warm enough to move some Pleurothallids, Anguloas and other cooler Orchids outside today and a few more Cattleyas. The cage is slowly looking like "Summer" And in the process of moving the Cattleyas out, I do see some scale here and there. Not too bad of infestations, but everything needs to be really looked over and treated where needed. The Cattleyas looked ok today, I wasn't happy that the temperature had dropped for a couple of days down to 40 degr at night and rain on top of that. ( we had temps in the eighties before!) I was worried, but there was no way I could move them all back inside, too many and too heavy. But, they are tough Orchids and did fine.

I think we are locked into 90 degree days until mid-October. Lows at night are about 70. Today was the last of choir until September and I have no more MG presentations until the fall either. Time to curl up by the air conditioner.

Elaine, the Chia Lin looks much better. Keep fungicide on the new growth and you will be fine.

Ursula, I use three different ones and rotate them; Bayleton, Captan and Dithane M-45.
