Just got these two Cyms Parish Elf & Shining Fire from a seller on ebay that had a shaky reputation. Glad I took the chance since they are hard to find and part ensifolium. One looks like it may have a spike!! We will see!

I attended a MG class on trees this morning and one of our older members announced that due to her health, she would be selling her orchid collection at her house after the class. Naturally, I was one of the first to arrive and made off with 4 ceramic orchid pots and the following plants:

Aerides odorata
Vanda Sanderiana (species)
Lc Gold Digger 'Orchidglade's Mandarin'
Rhynchovanda Herbert Kurihara 'K. Nitta' AM/HOS - AOS
Ascda Yip San Wah
Ascda Miniatum

All plants are blooming size, some are huge. Total cost $29.00. Did I do good or what? Sorry about knocking down that little old lady who stepped in front of me on my way into the greenhouse. Hilarious!

Ohh nice.
Here is the Ascda Yip Sum Wah ( ?)
http://forum.theorchidsource.c...
and I would think the miniatum is the Ascocentrum ( Asctm) miniatum. I would be curious to see a close up of the blooms on this one down the road.
Googling the Rhynchovanda Herbert Kurihara 'Kazuto Nitta' AM/ AOS/ HOS - this looks like a really nice orchid!!

Jim, you are lucky!!

Ursula, I've found pictures of both Ascda and Asctm Miniatum on the web. Is there a difference? Mine looks like a little vanda right now. Hard to say.

Jim,
Looking up Miniatum as a hybrid/either as Ascocenda/Ascda or Vanda at the RHS
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...
you will not get a relevant hit.
I would think Ascda Miniatum ( hybrid of Ascocentrum x Vanda) must be an error? It should be Ascocentrum/Asctm miniatum?
Would you like to post a picture of the plant?

The plant is bent because she had it hanging by one side in her greenhouse. Anyway, here it is.

I guess you would have to grow it on a bit and take good care of it, but - comparing the size of the tag to that basket and plant, it has the right size for an Ascocentrum, I think.....

Isn't there more red tone on an ascocentrum?....I know Bill Hutchinson showed me the difference between the ascocentrum and ascocenda about 4 years ago and it was a visual difference. I just can't remember what he showed me..... Blinking

I spent the morning at the USF fall plant sale. I was mainly looking for yellow bedding plants but one orchid did follow me home. This is Brassavola Jimminey Cricket (B. nodosa X digbyana). It's a large plant mounted on a piece of ceder.

Lucky I got back here before anyone read my last post. I just remembered digbyana is no longer a Brassavola. So, I should have said Rhynchovola Jimminey Cricket - Brassavola nodosa x Rhyncholaelia digbyana. There, I feel better. Rolling my eyes.

Jim, how do you pronounce Brassavola? I've been practicing it with the stress on the second syllable. It rolls off my tongue now.

I pronounce it $27.00 plus tax. Rolling on the floor laughing I guess I stress the third syllable. Just a habit. Here is a pic of the bloom. http://www.flickr.com/photos/5...
