I started at the beginning of this thread and there were comments about Brecks and their photoshopping. I bit on their 'blue' dahlias. Bah. Just a nice lavender, dark on the top of petal and light on the bottom. A pretty flower but certainly nowhere near blue. How they stay in business I don't know.

I think the secret to Purple Prince from Breck's staying purple here is the fact that they get part shade during the day......
The sun really lightens up the flowers big time.......
I wanted mine to be a bit more pink since someone told me that they thought they would be on here but NOT the way it happened.....

some of Breck's things are fine and some are now........

Most of my bulbs did come from good lily breeders but I do have some Breck's bulbs that are doing fine too. I find with Breck's it is very repetitive in their varieties especially the lilies.....

but on the other side the guarantee to flower is good with Breck's and if it does not look right you will get your money back
can not say that for the other breeders I have dealt with up till now for sure
but so far as has been find except for the mix up with Gold Band

I agree about part shade for a darker Purple Prince lily. Same goes for any dark petaled bloom.
Brecks has such a bad record I just automatically look somewhere else. When the coments are running in negative numbers larger than the positive ones Its a clear indication to choose another vendor.

As far as shopped images goes all vendors are at fault. Many buy images for their web pages from a image service, thats how you see the same plant on different websites The website isnt at fault only in that they allow a image to represent their product. When I am looking for a particular plant I check Plant Files or database to see if gardeners have posted pix from their gardens, that is the best indication for size and color in my book.

Pat, that was me saying that your 'Purple Prince' wouldn't be truly purple and that you didn't need to worry about all those bulbs you planted. I said it would be pink with blue tones and I stand by it as it still looks very pink to me. Respectfully I'd suggest to look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... for a good definition of truly purple hues. Of course it obviously still may not be the color you wanted, but if you wanted clear pink then why buy a lily called 'Purple Prince' in the first place?

Thanks for that link, WIlliam.
It'll help me explain what I want when I say I want purple!
Numbering horizontally, I mean squares 4 and 7.
2 is too dark and the rest are pastel-ish.

Looks like mine too.
A sure sign of photo-alteration on a website is to look at the background greenery and leaves. If they appear dark bluegreen the image has been altered.

Back in the day when I bought all the Purple Prince it was ok........... but that was not the color that I actually wanted once I added other flowers. Brecks made them look my black purple then just purple or a hue of purple or pink.......manipulation I guess is the best word
and you were right.......can be seen as soon pink as well............but they are for sure darker in the shade then in the sun
but in the end of it all........the purple prince looks fine the way it is and I like it
to me it has a purple hue but I can see where someone might see pink in it as well

not a big deal to me at all

lots of Midnight in the trumpets are dark purple here and that is fine too.......crossing some of them for my daughter in laws.....

the article is excellent by the way

This is purple to my eyes:

I've never found a lily as purple as the dress but I've found many phony lily colors:
The thread "Lilies and deceiving colors" in Lilies forum

Pat - my Purple Prince were no darker in the shade than they are in the sun. I'm sure your daughters-in-law will enjoy the lilies knowing you had a hand in their creation.

I agree Pink is not purple. Purple is purple. Violets are purple too. When you buy a violet variety that flowers the same shade as 'Purple Prince', it is described as pink. Hilarious!

yes.

I wouldn't care so much if I liked pink at all.
But I've been at war with pink since I was little and everyone assumed I wanted it.

That's a dirty trick, altering the color.

That's not the only dirty trick Brecks pulls! Have you noticed their pricing? They say you are "saving up to 75%" when in fact their price is absolutely NO different than anybody else's! The "regular" price they quote is GROSSLY exaggerated and only an absolute fool would pay that much or maybe someone who was desperate to buy a particular variety sold out at every other retailer in the country! Their quality leaves much to be desired too! Purchased 6 More Purple prince from them last year, ALL 6 virused and had to be destroyed!

All the Rosselini lilies I bought from Breck's were virused.
Thumb of 2015-07-26/pirl/6ee0c9

They messed up the order and, instead of 6 Rosselini, they substituted 3 of this one - not good when planting by color! You can see another of the virused lilies on the left.
