Just received their 2013 catalog today and couldn't believe the prices of their new intros! Blinking

I'll wait years before getting them at 'those' prices. Whistling

Guess they're trying to get their money back from buying the place.

Exactly, why did the Stamiles sell their place? Read that they're in CA now.

What's the full story? I'm all ears!

I did not order any new intros, but the general price list is very competitive. I got a DF of several different daylilies for the price of a single on LA. I am very happy with my order, can't wait for spring!!!

I broke down and ordered Buffalo Thunder. After seeing it in the catalog, it was a must have. I haven't heard back though, I got an automatic response.

Yes, it's taking quite a few days to hear back now, but you will. It took almost a week for my addition to my order. In defense of their prices, have you looked at the prices of some of the other hybridizers? When I look at the beautiful patterns and edges Floyd Cove is introducing I can certainly see why they've raised their prices. They held their top prices to $175 for the last couple of years, when other hybridizers were going above that limit. That COBALT RINGS by Ted Petit that we talked about in another thread is $300, and Floyd Cove's two most expensive introductions are $225. So they're all really up there. And Floyd Cove sends such wonderful plants, always a DF or two fans rather than a single fan like I've gotten from a couple of the other hybridizers.

It was a true shock when I started checking out the prices of daylily introductions, but I guess I've become acclimated because I don't react the same way now.

I just had to have BT after seeing it in the catalog. There are several I plan on crossing it with.

On LA abundantdaylilies is offering '1fan of 'Priceless' and 1fan of 'Best Edge' for $100.00. He said Best Edge is good for seedlings and he paid $1500.00 for one fan three years ago.
They are both beautiful daylilies but I am not affording that right now. I added to my Floyd Cove order. *Blush*

Susan, we have read and been told that 'Best Edge' is tender. We would like to grow it but do not have a greenhouse. So think it best to let this one pass for us in NW GA where it can get in the single digits some winters.

I believe BEST EDGE is an unregistered daylily that hybridizers have been using, but that's all the information I have. Where is Michele? She would know...

You are right!...that is what he said... Unregistered and nicknamed 'Best Edge' by far the best breeding daylily there is.. http://daylilies.net/catalog/i...

He has it hidden inside a listing for 'Priceless', so if it is so wonderful why not list it by itself so it will come up in a search. Maybe someone would like to have it, I mean like a hybridizer, or maybe someone would like to sell the seeds. Shrug!

The man that wrote this article, I could not figure out who he is because he did not sign his name. But he said something real funny, 'John it’s a 500.00 dollar daylily on a fifty cent scape.'... Rolling on the floor laughing

Yes Betty, BEST EDGE is an unregistered daylily that got nicknamed that. In the early 2000s it was given to certain people with the understanding it wasn't suppose to be sold or given away (from what I've been told) but needless to say it eventually did.
I've seen it, James has it and Fred has it. I'm sure when it was first used it was one of the best to use for hybridizing. It has been said "it's a $500 daylily on a 50 cent scape", the scape is short and the bud count is low and this is why Matthew Kaskel never registered it and only gave it away to those who thought it would be good for their hybridizing programs. Dan Trimmer, Frank Smith, Larry Grace, Jamie Gossard, Stan Holley, Polston, and I'm sure others have used it and Pete Harry was hybridizing in Matthew's garden back then and used it. Also, John Benz was given a piece and has used it.
Not all the daylilies with BE as a parent that has been registered have it listed, it just says seedling such as SHAMROCK SPRING lists (Cortina x sdlg) as the parentage but BE is the sdlg it is referring to so who knows how many daylilies BE has actually been a parent to.

Susan, we cross posted. Mike Holmes is the person who writes those articles.

Best Edge has been sold before on the auction and is a good hybridizing plant; maybe not the best as it once was, but it still is a good one. I don't think Mark was intentionally hiding it inside another auction, just sometime seedlings are grouped together with a registered daylily to sell, I've seen others do it as well.

Ok, I never saw that before. But still if someone was looking for one it would not turn up in the search. So that is kinda sad sense it is such a good hybridizing plant.

Superstitious is a very nice daylily. I do like it better than Cool Runnings. If I had money for a new intro I would get Game Face. It was love at first sight, I just now looked at the price, yikes! Rolling on the floor laughing

I have bought way too much this year. But no junk daylilies next year. I will be replacing non performers with new intros like Game Face.

Have you had any luck with dormants in Florida. Which is your oldest dormant?

I added, Azure Butterfly, Princess Diane, Snow Crystal, and Chang Dynasty.

Also I am going to trade some of these dormant daylilies and also the ones that are susceptible to rust. It is very hot and humid here and I would rather not take chances. I don't do much spraying but I will get some more of that Bayer systematic 3n1.
