Sorry Betty ROFL. You will have to list it as a wanted item on the auction.

I got confirmation of my order for Buffalo Thunder yesterday. Looks like I will have a new black one this year.

I have to stop spending NOW!

Me too!! .But I was on LA yesterday and I noticed a gorgeous daylily offered by Abundantdaylilies and it's called ''Watermelon Martini'. I saw this same daylily on 'Floyd Cove' for 175.00 and Mark has a buy it now of 45.00 or bids starting at 39.00. It does not say anything about seeds though, do you think that is why it's on sale??
(oh, the parents are...(Born to Run x sdlg) x Big Red Wagon)

Green Grin! Anybody know or have this daylily??

What does seeds have to do with it being on sale?? Mark has already sold it several times according to the closed auction list, so it must be a good increaser.

It looks as though Michelle has it since it's her picture you used.

Well, is is fairly new and I wasn't sure about it being fertile or not, I can't find any information. I might like a few seeds up the road or try some crosses. If nothing else it sure is beautiful!!

I looked through Closed items and don't look like she ever sold one. Sometimes she takes pictures of other peoples daylilies like Display Gardens or friends.

Maybe she sold it last year. And the closed auctions are only there for 60 days.

Susan, I always look to see who the hybridizer is and then check that website to see if there's a description of that particular daylily there. This was a Floyd Cove introduction, so I just checked and the description for WATERMELON MARTINI says at the end "Fertile both ways." And actually, I think Mark usually puts that description from the hybridizer right above the picture in his listings too.

This is a photo I took of James Hall's WM. I wasn't buying the really expensive ones when it came out.

Susan, the reason it is so low on the auction is because it is from 2011. Mark sold a majority of them last year as single fans. These may be the ones that he kept back and they increased so he's offering them as DF. The hybridizers are usually always going to be higher on the newer ones than the auction, it costs the bigger guys more to run their operations than most of the sellers on the auction.

On Floyd Coves website it says that WM is fertile both ways so I assume it will set pods. You will find that a lot of the sellers on the LA don't use 95% of what they buy; they buy the collections to resell. When they buy 10 or more whole collections each year they can't use everything.

Ok, I see it now! I was just skimming information and missed it. I guess it's good that he is offering double fans as well. Most of the time if he has something really nice he will only sell the single fans, but like you said he did that last year. If it's a really nice plant I will settle for a single fan, and I don't mind the left overs either! Rolling on the floor laughing

Just got the auto response on my order. I fell in love with one of their
futures, Born to be Wild, so I ordered two of its babies.
Game Face and Sweet Almond Mint.
Also Raspberry Mountain.
Still thinking about some others.

I'm still waiting on Born to be Wild, they said maybe next year.

Raspberry Mountain bloomed for me the first time this year, it was awesome. Look at the pictures I posted in our database here. But it only had fertile pollen for me.

AND just because they say fertile both ways when they introduce something, doesn't necessasarily mean it will be fertile for you. Most hybridizers use greenhouses to set their seed pods.

I looked on the closed auction lists for Watermelon Martini and did not see any seeds sold from it.

I also learned recently that sometimes a plant that is supposed to be pod fertile won't set pods the first year after you plant it, but usually will by the second year. Could that explain why several of my "newbies" didn't set pods for me this year?

Also, could it be that some plants have been treated with BAP, which keeps them from being fertile for at least a while? I know that Floyd Cove and Maryott's both state on their websites that they do not use BAP, so I'm starting to think that that is important. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

I sure love the look of BORN TO BE WILD in the AHS Database, and I really hope they introduce it next year. From everything I keep hearing about it, it will probably be sold out right away!

Dot, I did look at your photos in the database before ordering. Loved how it bloomed
for you.

I can use it even if it only sets pollen, but I have had some set pods that are registered
as pollen only, and also those registered as pod not do so. Some will set pods one year and not the next.
So, I just chalk it up to the season and weather.

That could be Betty, although I wouldn't know cause I usually don't try to set a pod on a new
plant. Just use its pollen. I try to avoid anything treated with BAP. Sometimes we may not know
though if some have been treated with it.

I think Born to be Wild will sell out quickly also, unless the price is enormous,
which I suspect it will be.
