My epi is also finally showing a bud ..hoping it continues on without a hitch! At first I was not sure, thought it might just be another leaf, Glad to see that in spite of our whipping winds, up and down temps, the plant is holding on quite well outdoors Smiling So excited to see how this will go, my first one for an epiphyllum Smiling

Just a photo update of my Aeonium arboreum as it continues to develop the buds..the leaves has noticeably gone smaller, dropping the other exterior leaves as it continues to redirect its energy to the continued formation of the flower buds. We had some recent strong winds and cool down which slowed down the growth, but now we are back to calmer, warmer days, which hopefully helps the plant a little more.

This side gets the sun to the south, so it has stronger bud formation:

This side is to the north side, so the bud formation is a bit slower, and smaller:

Tarev, I'm a newbie and have a question. I read somewhere that aeoniums die after they flower. My question is, do they make offsets before they do, like other succulents?

....additionally, are *all* of them monocarpic like that?
In the end, only kindness matters.

Strange, I don't remember mine dying off but maybe because I had several side offsets.

I looked on several nurseries, and Wikipedia, they said "most". one source said that its more common for the arboreum type to be monocarpic, and these purple ones are the arboreum types. So it seems that if they don't have lots of offsets then the plant will die after blooming.

Hi Deebie, not sure if it is monocarpic..but I am hoping that it is not for mine Rolling my eyes. My plant has lots of offsets too like Sue's so maybe it will not die..keeping fingers crossed.
