Those coiled ones are a pain, I wouldn't recommend them. I haven't tried the expandable ones.

Same here. The hose wants to go in a straight line so I found myself hooking coils on things to protect plants, pots,... The 50' hose had trouble reaching 30', leaving me feeling like I got hosed!

I use a coiled hose in the greenhouse. It's a 25' hose and the greenhouse is only 12' long so I can reach everything. My complaint about it is that the pressure is so much lower than a regular hose. It's hard to get a nice spray out of the nozzle for that reason.

I cannot speak for the coil type hoses but i bought an expandable one last year and it was only pulled across grass not cement. About 2 months ago it burst with a 6 inch gash just back of the nozzle. So i got about a year out of it. Another thing with 1/2 inch OD my water pressure was not very good.
Few years back my father in-law had found a brand new 50ft heavy duty garden hose at garage sale for 3 bucks and he sold it to me and had it in my garage all this time. When expandable went kaput i hauled the heavy one out and water pressure is better.
Do not buy the expandable unless you want a new one every year or so. And do not buy any of those home improvement plastic hose reel carts. They do nothing but leak. Ever notice the grass is greenest under and around your cart? Thats why.

The coiled hoses are junk. And with the diameter of them you can blow water out of a straw with more pressure.

The expandable hoses are great, but as someone mentioned, keep them out of the sun. I got 2 years out of the one I had in the greenhouse. And you can't connect several............even if you HAVE decent water pressure, the stream at the end is minimal. I found one at the Philly garden show in March............industrial strength, and it is 5/8, not 1/2. MUCH heavier than those cheapie green ones. This one is black. I will see if I can find the label for it........Amazon has the black ones, but not this one. Amazon's are higher priced and not as good.

Mine works great in the greenhouse because I can adjust the pressure from the pump I have on my water tank.

I love the expandable hoses but they don't last very long. If you find that one you mentioned @annaZ I would love to know where to get it. I too, hate the coiled ones and am tossing a pretty new one out because it just does not stretch out!!!!

Count me as one more who hates the coiled hoses. They went to the recycle bin at the dump long ago. I do love the expandable ones but they aren't good for dragging over bricks, gravel or cement.

I love the expandable hose. I must have very strong water pressure because I hook two 50' together and it works great because I have a large area. My water pressure is so strong it was bent and the water pressure blew a hole in the in the hose. I saw the bubble and by the time I got to it I was too late.

I have the black one for the front and the cheap green one for the back. They both seem to be holding up good for the last two years.

I have been very happy with the expandable hose, which so far has lasted two seasons with no particular signs of wear. I keep it attached to a short regular hose that is fully charged at all times, with a shut on/off connector between the charged hose and the expandable hose. At the end of the expandable hose I have about an 8-10" trigger nozzle. I hang the nozzle at about hand height on my front deck, and just let the expandable hose fall to the ground behind a mature hydrangea. Thus, it is handy but unobtrusive. To water my porch plants, I simply open the connector, let the expandable hose fill up, then walk around and water using the nozzle. It has worked exceptionally well for me - no knocking things over like the coiled hoses tended to do. When done watering, I turn off the connector, then continue watering until the expandable hose has shrunk back to its small size. I think the key is to not keep it charged, which stresses it and causes leakage. I plan to get one for my back deck next year.

I keep looking at them, but so far haven't tried one yet. Maybe this next year. I was thinking about doing what Deb does; just using it as an extension on a charged hose. Heh, it was a fine day when I discovered in-line hose shut-off valves. And quick connectors. Smiling

Received a two-pack expandable hose set for my birthday in March. So far so good. It has brass ends so I see that as an improvement over the earlier models with plastic ends. It sits in the shade so hopefully that will lend to a longer lifetime. I love that it is so light compared to my other 50 ft hoses. The weight of the spray nozzle is heavier than the hose.

Dislike the coil-type hoses. They are like a bad phone cord when it tangles. "Phone cord"? Did I just date myself???

I still have a wall phone with a long cord. I was talking with the telephone company and got an obviously young kid who could not understand what a 'hard wired' phone might be...he kept telling me it had to plug into a socket somewhere. We finally just ended the conversation, it was going nowhere.

It DOES plug into a socket. It's just that there's no cord. Heh, DH worked for Pac Bell for 27 years; I know exactly how a wall phone is installed. At least, that's how ours works. The plug is directly on the back of the phone, and plugs into a socket on the wall. He'll get a kick out of your chat with the youngster at the phone company. Hilarious!

This one is even older than that I think. Black, heavy, with the receiver held in a cradle below the dial. When we built our house 37 years ago, the phone company said it wouldn't work, but my brother-in-law disagreed and somehow hooked it up for us (retired GTE employee). We now use cable for phone service and sadly that old phone is now just a wall decoration. I miss using it, and often laughed at our sons' friends who would pick up the receiver and then not know what to do next.

Ooooh! Wanna see picture! Don't think I've seen one like that. Mine all have the hook at the top, and the receiver hangs down over the dial.

Kids now-a-days!

Same thing with pay phones (phone booths).

"Do you mean a PRE-PAID cell phone?"

It never occurred to me that the name of a "dial-up" modem assumes that you know that phones once had dials.
