Ah that explains it then, I've been wondering how in the world I could have made such a mistake... Confused
It works but it sounds a little whiny...
It's discouraging to open the aroids forum only to see no new posts!
I have literally hundreds of EE, and work for hours in the garden daily, always with my phone, often taking pics...but with no conversation in the thread, I don't bother to open it, if I don't open it, I'm not going to post in it...
I like aroids, most of the ones I grow are tropical, many are not...I guess I just to accept the fact that aroids will be a slow sub forum anywhere I go, not from lack of interest in the plants themselves, but seemingly some aversion to an aroid specific forum... Sad

Back on topic...

About fertilizing...I'm not a fan of MG!
They market their products as if every other product is inferior, while in reality, they are the one over charging for a mediocre product, it works way better than nothin...
They basically started this whole fertilizer confusion we have now...
Jacks/jrpeters offers, in my opinion, I far superior product, at a fraction of the cost, it really is what the pros use! Order directly from their site, it's still cheaper than mg even with shipping!
With a little math, it's very easy to refill those prepack fert bottles with fert u mix from powder.
I burn thru literally 5 pounds of water soluble a month, if that was mg, that would be $500 a year in fert, and those premixed refills are much more expensive than the water soluble...I could easily spend a grand a year if I used those...ack
U might also look up an item called a hose-on, it work just the same except it attaches to the spigot, and has a small feeder hose u drop in a bucket, it sucks up the fert water, and u get the same result as u do with a hose end sprayer, without having to haul that heavy thing around, it never leaks fert on u, like all hose ends do, and refillings a breeze! Just dump more fert in, stick the hose in the bucket til full and mixed and away u go... It's all to much hassle for me nodding just sprinkle blue salt on the ground and water in.. Done, if u time it right u can just let rain do the work...

Remember! 20-20-20 is a waste in EE, counter productive even!
I use 11-50-11, mg has bulb booster I think it's 9-52-9 maybe, EE love that ratio, but the faster growing ones like some nitrogen added too!
It's really hard to burn plants with low N fert too, so they can handle alot of it, and often!

My thai giant gets dosed 2x a week with enough dry powder to mix 10 gallons of outdoor strength fert, then I wash it in with maybe 3 gallons, that's roughly 12 x instructed dosage! To offset the cost of nitrogen... I pee on it as often as I can, call it gross if u want!
Reality is its green green GREEN, literally and figuratively, the plant consumes the N and all the micro and macro nutes, which we produce many of in abundance, this saves a flush, the water treatment plant doesn't process it, and because the plants so darn hungry, little waste is left behind! The circle is complete!
But also, the plant is literally green as can be! And I think it's growing... Rolling on the floor laughing

He just got a big shot of blue salt, ill post a pic tmrw for comparisons sake,

Interesting and useful information .. your "hose on" is a siphon mixer - sounds like a dream and will definitely be hunting one down today .. if I can't find it in town I'll order it. What I really like about it is you can also hook it up to a sprinkler. How cool is that? I was trying to figure out ways to do just that with one of those hand held mixers. That's definitely right in line with my "lazy gardener" routine. Thanks!

Down here in FL we have phosphate naturally in the soil, and also in our well water. So I tend to buy ferts with a low middle number. I do use MG for my potted plants, most of which get watered with tap water. In some plants, not EE's of course, too much phosphorus can inhibit blooming, so we have to watch out for that here. We also have a fertilizer ordinance against the use of any fert with nitrogen components between June 1st and Sept 30th so everybody puts down the best slow-release stuff at the end of May to last through the summer. I'm right with you on the 'natural' fertilizer method, Sway. It's so much more difficult for girls, though. Hm, need to re-train my husband.

As far as the Aroids forum goes, you're right, it is pretty slow there. Susan said it best, it's more casual and friendly here. Hardly anyone posts pictures on the Aroids forum, and most of the comments are in the form of technical questions for LariAnn. She is the greatest, but she's too busy to post much (which of course would make things so much more interesting).

I'm a firm believer that pictures keep these threads alive. Try to post a picture each time I post, but, you've all seen all my Ears just in the last week! I need to go get a new picture of my neighbor's Xanthos in the ditch - they're twice the size they were before we got rain!

Wow, a whole border of Ears! That's a pretty mix of leaf colors you've got going there, Sway. Be interesting to see them grow over the summer. Is that upright one in there a Canna?

It's about a year old now - got tired of looking at the train wreck next door .. I really wanted it to be the other way around but my pesky (pesky is not the word I'd really like to use but ..... ) neighbors put up such a stink about the whole thing and emphatically told me I was not to go on their property so we put it up this way. Then the pesky neighbors complained that they got the bad side of the fence. Jeeeze!

Next time the fence needs replacing, you should put a few "ornaments" in your garden along the fence line. I bet they'd be glad to replace the fence! This was on the Yard Art Tour in Austin a couple of years ago. When the house next door sold, this owner turned all the heads to face the new owners' backyard. The next day they put up a 6' fence, just on that side.

Lol .. that's funny! On a sad note (for the pesky neighbors) the bank foreclosed on them a month ago .. and as I imagined they apparently had trashed the house inside because I got a post card in the mail from the bank offering it up for half what houses are going for in my neighborhood.

Always best to put a fence 6" or more away from the property line, a line fence is own by both parties... Think those neighbors are pesky now... Wait til they sue for the fence after u tear it down, hypothetically of course...

Bubbles- that is scary!

Oh no! Will the pics still be there when the phone re-charges? Just have a small "cold beverage" and retake photos!

Here's my frustration. I dug and dug in our caliche/limestone to plant Thai giant in the ground in front of the sprinkler so it would get lots of water, both from hand watering and from the sprinkler on the one day a week we can use them here. The afternoon sun is baking the ears, so I'm going to dig it up again and put it in a very large ceramic pot with one tiny drain hole. I have to figure the best place to place the pot to keep the 100ยฐ afternoon sunshine off of it. That pot can't be moved once it's filled with soil.

I'm exhausted just looking thru all those gorgeous EEs and more! Is the black ear right above the caption "South side of the House," Metallica? Mine is just poking out of the pot now. It's usually the first to wake up. Gives me hope some of the rest have survived the winter here.

I'm going to fix a beverage and then look at them all again. Then I'll show them to DH, who thinks I have too many plants! Thumbs up

Get ready, everyone!! We're going to have to send out a search party once all those ears get big, Sway's house will disappear.

I'm jealous of all that great looking soil, all I've got is grey sand full of oak tree roots!

The fence stories are so great, mine was not so much fun. Neighbor abruptly tore down a fence along one side of a rental property we owned. Our tenant had a dog in the back yard, which escaped, but that's another story. The neighbor claimed it was his fence, sitting on his property. He didn't know we had a survey done just weeks before, and the fence was right on the property line. The neighbor wanted to park an RV on the side of his house, and needed 2ft more space, so he was just going to move the fence, cut down a nice oak tree, and put up a new fence where he wanted it - a modern day land grab! Sadly he did not have enough money to replace the fence anyway, (or he just refused because we wouldn't give him the 2ft??) so the tenant says to me "I've got a length of the ugliest pig fencing you've ever seen . . ." It's still up there, and the neighbor has evidently abandoned his house now.

My poor Thai giant keeps getting burned too!
Really boogles me, it spend all of last and now all this summer the same spot, I've never had trouble before but twice in a weeks it's suffered severe burns to some leaves, not all of them tho, and with quick application of water much of the damage can be reversed, but it's slowing down its growth!
I fear that if it gets smoked again it may really hurt it so I went out and cut a bunch of branches and built a blind around it, I sure hope it helps!
