I know the Frostweed on my place has been doing its thing before, but just hadn't gotten out to take pics before it melts. Didn't have to go far for the first one! As it happens, the one in the back yard had ice...that was the first pic. The second one was by the dry creek! One more really cold night! Hope nothing breaks!

Joy: It sounds like those goats keep your life exciting. I always wanted a goat. ONE. hahaha And a chicken. ONE. Hahaha Some farmer I am, huh?

Margaret: What is a "hoarfrost"?? It sounds cold!

Here is the result of our freeze last night. It promises to be colder tonight but it all depends on if the cloud cover sticks around or not.

It is a spiky type of frost that covers everything when conditions are just right, it is very very beautiful, photos don't do it justice, you just have to see it. Lovey dubby Please enlarge to see the whole photo.

So sorry about your pipe, porkpal. I guess it could have been way worse had the weathermen been correct about their forecast. Still, a broken pipe is a PITA. Thumbs down

Thanks folks! I guess the pipe gives me the opportunity to plumb the line better so that it will fully drain - as it failed to do this time. Or I could figure out a way to blow the water out with the air compressor perhaps? I am beginning to see a Rube Goldberg contraption in the making...

I feel your pain. When we had the last polar vortex which dropped our temps to 16, we had just gotten icynene insulation put on/in our old farm house. Because we are pier and beam, they went underneath and covered the underside as well, or so we thought. The temps dropped and we turned off water everywhere on the farm but the house. For almost three weeks Dave and I replumbed. Every time we thought we were good, we found another cracked line. The company left the lines exposed and didn't tell us.
Now we have two low point drains, one where the water comes out of the ground, and one at the back where it comes out of our Rinnai water heater. We just open the drain spigot and one in the house.

One outdoor faucet is broken here. Maybe that's all...I hope. There was a fire at a neighbor's house yesterday.
Sorry about the pipe, Porkpal. Joy, I hope you made that company pay! My DD in Houston was worried about her expensive plants last night when I talked to her.
