Rose1656 said:I decided it was time to clean up the walkway by the house. So, I got the pavers up, replaced all the landscape cloth, and put the pavers back. We're getting a load of river rock tomorrow to put around the walkway. I did this about 20 years ago, and I remember it being a lot easier then! I hate when I take on a project that tells me that I'm getting too old to do it!

Me too..I expanded an area of flagstone...and it just about killed me.

I put that paver dust down and between and it acts as a landcsape cloth.. holds the rick steady too. My problem is the things that grow on top of the filler between the stones.. weeds will even grow in the chapel hill pebbles I sometimes mulch with...spring right up on a 3 inch thick gravel drive .
I cant get a darn seed I plant and nourish and whisper to ..to grow...but these weeds grrr
Don't squat with yer spurs on!

People try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved

I was outside already and emptied some pots of bulbs. Not sure what they are since they did not flower this year. Can't remember if they were over wintered or if I bought them new this spring and planted them. I put a picture of the plant and the bulbs on the Plant ID forum.

Yesterday I cut back my Dahlias. I plan to dig them up today and let them dry for storing. I also cut back the foliage on some Daylily and Iris. Still have lots to do before the temps get back to where they are suppose to be for this time of year. Guess I better go get something done. I think I am going to drain some hoses and get them put away.

Enjoy your day!!

I prepped a container for sempervivum transplants come spring.
The mix I use needs to settle over winter.

I cleaned up the walkway after getting all the rock put down yesterday. After 3 days of working on that project I decided to take it easy today!

Captured a few "not supposed to be looking like this the middle of November" shots today...

Dug dahlias for four hours. Did it yesterday as well. One more stint and I should be done.

I got the last of my Dahlias dug. Also the cannas of which I do not have many. Going to have rain turning to snow this weekend. Not looking forward to it, but glad I got the digging done in time.

Didn't I read a post a while back that mentioned you cutting back? D'Oh! I feel like a real slacker, since I'm only saving two!

Last year I grew around 60 dahlias but did cut it back to 40 this year. Then a friend gave me three and one dahlia grew that had not been lifted last November. Maybe this will teach me not to order more of them...maybe.

I also got my one raised bed of Dahlias dug and washed off. I thought digging and cleaning 10 were bad. Arlene, I can't imagine digging 40 +. I should dig one small area of Glads and a few more Canna before Saturday. I have already dug plenty of both. I have a few bulbs in pots that I need to empty and store.

I'm sure your yard is beautiful when they're all blooming! I do love them, but didn't have any luck with the ones I tried saving last year. Hopefully Geof will have some for sale again next year!

It's not awful when temperatures cooperate.

The glads here stay in place. I had them stored last winter and was doubtful they'd survive but they did. This year I'll try placing a bag of mulch on top of them in the hopes it works to save them.

It's always work with a garden, some jobs being more fun than work.

I kept them under the work bench in my husband's heated shop. Most of the time it's around 55°.

If they don't sprout then the temperature must suit them. I try for between 40 and 50 but no longer check each bag each month. That was too much angst for me. Humidity is also important but if I start getting too crazed about them it would take out the joy of growing them, so I don't.

Home Depot and Walmart sell them at such good prices that it's easier to chalk up a loss now and then than to become obsessed.

I dug up the last of my Gladiolus. The weather wasn't bad early this morning. It was windy but 60 degrees. I put some yard décor in the garden shed and drained my last hose. About noon the wind really started to get strong and the temps started to get cooler. As soon as I came inside around 2 and looked out it had started with a little mist. Glad I was done and in where it was warm and dry. Maybe I will get my Christmas decorations up in a week or so if or when the temps get back up around 50.

Well, I don't have to worry about saving my dahlias! I forgot them in my unheated shed and they were all pretty shriveled up and very soft. I tossed them and hope that the elephant ears will be okay after the freezing temps.

Love your snow pictures Jo Ann, but I'm not ready for a foot of the stuff!
