My dog Lily is about the same size as an average cat! Hilarious!

I learned cats don't see red or orange but do see other colors. I learned they also see really well in low light. I learned cats see utra violet which is invisible to us so they see scent trails made by prey and can follow it by sight. Also that they see contrast very well, much better than we do. All useful for catching prey.

It showed the difference between what we see and they see.

I learned about all the things a cats whiskers do, which is why a blind cat can navigate so well, the whiskers tell it where objects are located.

I learned cats mark their territory by rubbing their body against objects including their people. And that they remark their territory constantly. So your cat rubbing against you is claiming you as her own.

And I already knew this but the common domestic cat is an extraordinary predator.

That's very cool that they see scent trails! Wow.

I knew about the rubbing thing. Was there anything about hearing?

Thank You!

They talked about all the muscles in a cats ears. Which is why they can move them around so well and move each individually. But I don't remember them going into anything specifically about a cats hearing.

Maybe there isn't much to say, beyond "their hearing is very sharp!"

Green Grin!

Very cool about seeing scent trails! And I wonder what a red or orange object looks like to them?

That's my kind of dog--lap size! Smiling

Kaly seems much much better this afternoon -- I am really thinking now it must have been that racoon she caught scent of that freaked her out so.

Anyway, I am relieved.

Took Lily for a walk along the shoreline. She decided to dig a hole in the sand and went crazy digging. Just like a little kid playing in the sand. Hilarious! She growled at the two Sea Gulls she saw like those silly birds even cared.

But we both got our exercise walk along the beach.

Beautiful here, too! Unfortunately, I was stuck behind a desk all day at work!

Sad At this time of year one needs to get out and enjoy the weather while it is nice!

I am not, not, not a winter person. So I stay indoors at much as possible come winter. So best to enjoy the days now.

I think I'm a spring and fall person. I'm equally unhappy in the coldest parts of winter, and the hottest muggiest parts of summer. Sad On the other hand, if you asked me whether I'd like to live someplace where it was winter 10 months of the year or super hot muggy summer 10 months of the year, I'm sure I'd go with 10 months of summer over 10 months of winter! Hilarious!

I like to be outdoors. Now I know some people like to be outdoors in the winter time but that sure isn't me! And really I don't love the humidity but still I am very much a summer person. Of course the best season is spring as everything in the garden wakes up and gets green and lovely. And early fall is not bad at all. Just that I know it means winter is coming. And I hate winter.

I agree Spring is best, with mild temps, the garden coming back to life, and the promise of warmer days and flowers and pollinators to come. I fell in love with autumn due to 20+ years living in Connecticut--just loved that foliage--but you're right, it's tempered by the knowledge that winter is coming. All the extra holidays and 3 day weekends make up for it, though! :-D When I was in academia there was an excitement to the fall because it meant the new school year had arrived, but now I feel a little sadness in the fall.

I'm looking forward to winter here, I think -- partly because it will be my first winter in this location and I'm curious.

Spring will be awesome, though, because I will be starting the new beds for real! Green Grin!

Kaly is sitting right next to me while I do my morning computer things. Unlike all those cats you see on the internet, she doesn't seem to particularly like the computer and if I put the laptop on that table in front of the window, she's less likely to spend time up there.

Dogs are nice because you can take them with you places. But I have a friend who takes one of her cats everywhere, even on roadtrips. That cat was born in the truck when she and her husband were long-distance truckers, and he doesn't feel right if he doesn't get to go along. He's an awesome cat.

Rita, you are so lucky to be able to walk to the beach...I must get in the car and drive and that is 20 to 30 minute ride each way, which of course Charle does not like to ride in a vehicle, so I am out of luck to even try and take him.. My other dog loved it but I was always afraid of the sand flea problem.. do you check her out for sand fleas or don't you have them there?

I guess we have sand fleas but Lily is on Revolution which kills fleas and flea eggs and also for heartworm and such.

We have a lot of beaches and waterfront here. I have a choice of places to walk with my dog.

I went down to the same beach today and we walked along the beach for an hour and 45 minutes. Went further than yesterday. Boy does Lily have fun as she can run along and sniff at everything. She even digs holes in the sand. I don't let her dig at home in my yard so she seems happy to get some digging in down by the shore. And since it is sand, that makes it easy for her to dig.
