Oh yes, they are all different. My little Lily hates to be cold so I knew she would need sweaters and a thick coat for the colder weather.

JB said:I know Lucky my barn cat has fleas and since I can not touch her, I need to find something to put in her food. It is always something, I just hate to see her scratch. She is such a cutie I want her to be comfortable. Any suggestions or do I call the vet.

JB, did you find anything? I don'tknow that there is a food additive that works but, if there is, I'd love to know of it.

Have you tried using diatomaceous earth? It does help control them. You have to get food grade and you have to sprinkle it liberally in their areas (I used to use a flour sifter for that when I was hosting a family of ferals once.) You also have to reapply if it gets wet. But, it does help!

Here's an article about it, with links where to find it: http://www.richsoil.com/diatom...

Sounds like it might help. JB, hope you're able to do something for her, poor itchy girl.

I have a nice clean doggy having just given Lily a bath in the kitchen sink. She earned herself a bath after rolling in stinky stuff she found on the beach early this afternoon. It was low tide and she even found a dead horse shoe crab. Not my idea of lovely perfume but she thought it smelled great.

I think she smells and looks much better now since her aloe vera doggy shampoo smells so nice to me.

Of course after her bath she had to run around the house like a silly girl the way that dogs do after they are all clean.

I love the way she smells right after a bath. Her doggy shampoo smells nicer than my people shampoo. Rolling on the floor laughing And she looks so spiffy. Thumbs up

I can just picture it. Smiling

I am concerned about my Kaly cat. She's been spending a good bit of time in the back of a closet, where admittedly she has privacy and safety from the little male youngun who likes to jump on her. But hiding out this much is new.

She seemed to getmore relaxed the last couple of days and even hung out in the window over my table when I opened it and put some padding on the sill.

But this evening, she was up there after eating and started panting with her mouth wide and her eyes dilated. I have seen her do this once when she was pretty agitated (on the trip down here when we moved, in fact) but that time I was able to ease her. This time, no, she kept doing it off and on. I offered water and she didn't want it but seemed to want something?

Finally she went off into the closet again where she is lying on the floor. At least she is peaceful and cool in there!

I don't know if she is in pain, or just agitated (Nab, the little buster, has been pesky lately and I think when she gets his scent she gets distressed!)

Confused Shrug!

I just hope she's better tomorrow -- she seemed fine until this evening!

Thanks. She is 14 but I have hopes she has some good years left! It's hard not being able to help.

Kinda took away my enthusiasm for tomorrow's garden project, though I expect tomorrow I'll be rarin' to go again.

I hope.

I wonder if the male sat in her spot on the sill? This might have caused her to become agitated and stressed. Poor baby. Sad I would say if she continues to show that level of distress, might be worth talking to the vet about it. Sad

Thanks -- I don't think he had a chance to sit there, but the open window is right over the backyard and he may have been wafting scent upwards at that time. Blinking That was actually my first theory!

And yeah, she might need to go to the vet. Sad

ah, yes, the open window--that makes perfect sense. She's sitting there thinking she's safe and all of a sudden there's his scent. Poor babe. Sad

I do so very much hope it is only that!

And she has always been quite high strung. I had hoped that here she could have some peacefulness but it has been disturbed for her, sadly.

Okay, enough a this sad sackin' around. I'm going to take the attitude that by tomorrow she will be fine if not before then.

So there. Smiling

Here's Kaly not long before she started to register distress. I just this morning discovered there was a racoon outside right under the window, and if he's been hanging around maybe she caught his scent and reacted.

No idea!

But, isn't she pretty? Lovey dubby

I have a dog right now but have always had cats my entire life from the time I was a really small child. Even when I had dogs I also had cats. Just these last few years no cat. But I love cats. Lovey dubby

Last night I was watching something on Nat Geo Wild Channel on TV about domestic cats. How they see and smell and all about their senses. Truly remarkable creatures that many of us share our lives with. Big Grin

LOL! Your dog looks like the perfect dog for a catlover. Green Grin!

I love both dogs and cats as well. Before I moved here I was living with my sister and had taken on the care of her two big dogs, whom I miss dearly. I walked them every day, fed them, gave them lots of TLC which it seemed everyone else was all too busy to do. I wish I had pictures of them but at that time my camera was not available to me, so I don't.

Rita, what in particular did you learn about cats' senses? I know they are much more sensitive to some things than we and that their vision is very different -- but that's about all I know! I'm all ears!
