It is really a good thing that Tom's list only involves new additions - cause if we had to take into account how many we already have...or the number of rhizomes in each clump of aforementioned previous owned iris....I don't think there is a butterfly net anywhere big enough to hold all us crazy people!!!

And yeah! Definitely waiting on the PNW sale! Rolling my eyes. Sticking tongue out Hilarious!

Happy Birthday Arlyn!!! Hope you had a great day!

Just to be sure my count is right ... I ordered 13 iris from Schreiners to buy the "correct named cultivar" of the iris I bought from The Big Box stores. I won't know until the spring bloom if these iris were correctly packaged or did I get more no ID's. So it may be next spring whether I will know if I need to add or subtract from this years total. Maybe I should order 13 more iris and call it even. :)

Another Big Box story: in 2012 I bought Gold Galore. It bloomed the next year and was a beautiful white iris that I think may be Mesmerizer. In 2013 I wanted more of this "beautiful iris" so I bought 2 more Gold Galore. They bloomed this spring, and they were white, but they were not like the ones I think is Mesmerizer). I also bought Cherub's Smile from The Big Box Store and it turned out to be another white iris and a very reliable re-bloomer!

My other confession is that 95% are planted in pots at the moment until it gets cooler (its been so HOT here). I've been cutting back the climbing roses, ripping out wild grape, blackberries, weeding, and tearing out some lawn for more areas to plant iris. I hope I have enough space.

Tom, most of the time I'm computer challenged, so I need very specific instructions on how to upload photos.
Yesterday I wanted to post a few of my no id iris then I deleted it because it didn't look right. There was writing there but no picture showed up. Is there an area on the forum I can go to for very specific instructions?
Barbara

Barbara, To post a picture on a tread, you click on the "Upload an image" button just below the box where you type your message. A window will open that askes you to choose a picture. You will need to know where your file of that picture is stored on your computer, like in the My Pictures file, or desk top, or where ever you store your photos. You then click on the picture you want to upload, and click on "Open" and the picture will upload. Then just click on Finished, and it will be added to the thread.

it will be added to the thread as a bunch of 'writing' as you said. You can click on the PREVIEW button under your message box and it will show you how it will look when posted. If you want to edit it you can still do so in your message box before hitting the button FINISHED. I hope this helps because I would like to see those photos. smiles

Well I am impressed! What dedicated iris enthusiasts! I am completely out of my depth.
I only bought 39 new irises this year which puts me in the "Good Start" class. I would love to get more, but I'm limited space wise and budget wise. Plus I must take into account that as I'm no Spring Chicken I need to remember that all these lovely things need to be cared for. But I am so enjoying your posts and photos too!

Being an iris addict prolongs your life. A lot of iris people lived to be really old. The old people at Iris Society events are straighter and can get up and down easier than other folks their age. Irises are good for your health unless you eat them. There are even natural products for pests and fungi so nasty chemicals are not encountered. Hurray!

Mary Ann - do you not like Immortality for some reason? It seems I have seen other negative comments about it on this site from others as well. Is there something I should know about the innocent looking white iris living at the edge of my front garden? Blinking Does it come alive at night and eat stray cats? Does it scare other iris out of their blooms? Do tell!

Pam - depends on if you fall uphill or down the hill no? If I fell and started rolling down the hill I fear I would flatten all those poor iris below me! Hilarious!

It must not eat stray cats....or they wouldn't keep using my iris beds for a litter box !! Immortality suffers from lots of "bad press", I'm afraid ! Some deserved, and some not! To start with...it's white, and I think most white iris are thought of as "rather bland", by lots of folks.....then there is the poor form....while it seldom actually falls over, the stalks grow every direction but straight up !, the flowers are "bunched" on the stem ( I guess you would call it 'poorly branched"?). On the plus side, it is a pretty darn good rebloomer, for most areas.and.it is about as close to bullet proof as you can bet, as nothing seems to stop it from blooming in the spring.
I'm not "big" on white iris, but Immortality will always grow in my garden, just because it reminds me of ME, in a lot of ways...bland, not too showy, poor posture...but kinda' dependable Rolling on the floor laughing ! And even though I'm not big on white...it sure makes the other colors "pop"when they are next to a white one !......Arlyn

I also think that because it's such a good grower, that box stores put them into lots of boxes and sell them as some other thing. When they bloom and they are just a white one, and you were expecting some other color, it can be a discourageing. I have had it for a long time, and it is alway dependable. Even reblooms here, one of the few that can do it before the frost it seems.
