I am still in Joplin for 5 yrs now (July 14)... I am not doing for relief and recovery work cause of the fungus on ground also from the house torn down that all the dust make me sick so I just stay away from them...

Hello everyone. My name is Lily and I live in Illinois. I garden in a typical suburban lot for nine years now. I grow lilies, hostas and irises in my garden. I also grow different bulbs in containers.

You'll fit right in, Lily. Several of us have lilies, hostas and irises (and never have enough, it seems).

I seem to be growing a healthy crop of weeds.... and more weeds and more weeds... Welcome Sgardener!

Hi - my name is Susan, and I live in the waaaaaaay NW (Calgary, Canada!) and have been gardening off & on for the past 50 years.
I have a small flower garden out front of my house, and containers on my deck, as well as a veggie garden at a friend's yard (no room at my home).
I grow irises, lillies, datura, brugs, honeysuckle and roses, plus a variety of other stuff.
Really pleased we got a ripe tomato in our garden this year, as we keep getting told that Calgary doesn't have the right conditions for them to ripen in the garden (only greenhnouses, etc). Heck, we're not supposed to be able to grow daturas, but I do!
I guess you'd call me a patient, stubborn gardener!

Welcome Susan - you should have fun picking up tips and sharing your experiences with others here. I'm sure you grow some things we will envy as well (sorry about the tomatoes). You must be doing something right to grow things past your zone already.

In front of my house it's 2 degrees warmer than it is off our property - I think we're just more sheltered!
I can grow things some of my neighbours can't - we face south for instance.

Hi ,I'm Sharon my user name is sasygranng came up with it because I was talking to my oldest daughter and slipped and swore and my grandaughter yells sassy granny I didn't know she was listening ,I apologized and my daughter and I giggled about it and just seemed appropriate so thats how I came up with name . I love hostas irises peonies lilies and just about everything else Been every blessed to have people like Always weeding to send me hostas in the past and by the way they are awesome and have grown very well and recieved irises from several people also I thank all of you It all started on Daves and Wow it been all great !!!!! Now all I need is more space have to work on that.......Sharon

What kinds of topics do you want the threads to be about? I'm not much of a one for starting new threads but will jump into one occasionally.

There is one on how we are handling the heat and another one on freezing corn.

The chitchat thread doesn't seem to have any posts past the first few. I didn't mean to say we shouldn't have one, just surprised to see it. Then it seemed to be more or less for business so the chitchat stopped. I was looking forward to it.
