Hi! I'm Doris from Iowa.I spent the afternoon dunking plants in a tub of soapy water before settling in the greenhouse. Would have been pleasant a few days ago when it was still warm. out.
This is the last day for a lot of pretty flowers out there.

I am from West Branch,Iowa. My petunias & grasses didn't freeze.I had some dahlias that had just started to bloom. Don't know why they were so tardy. Now we can dig the cannas & 2 kinds of elephant ears..The trick to saving them over is to let them properly cure, like onions.

Had a few patches of light frost this morning. Canna and dalias don't look like it even bothered them. My dahlias didn't bloom well at all this year. Don't know why must be the crazy weather we've had

Hello! My name is Cathy, aka Cathy4 in that 'other' place. I am so happy to have found my old friends and to make new ones. I have a smallish yard, a small greenhouse, and my husband and I chair the gardening group at our church. He does the hard work, I do the fun parts. We had mostly shade gardens until a tornado came through this spring, so this year has been a fall-back and regroup year. Lots of shade plants found new homes while sun lovers moved in. We have raised beds for the veggies; it makes it easier for me to manage. At church we are gradually going to Missouri natives and plants that survive hot/dry conditions. Oops, I forgot to say I live in St. Louis County.

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Cathy we are neighbors. For the longest time the closest ATP member was almost 70 miles away. I've been very active in the Plants of Merit Program which is going away. Not sure if they are keeping the website up or not. I'm also a member of the St. Louis Hosta Society and a Master Gardener Volunteer in St Charles County. Do you get High Country Gardens Catalog? They offer lots of plants for waterwise gardens. My favorite local nurseries are Greenscape and Wiethop Greenhouses.

Hi Cathy!

Fall is officially over for me. I am not a cold weather gardener and once the wind starts to blow, I'm inside baking bread or looking at the two flower catalogs that just came in the mail this week :o)

Hi - glad I found this place! I'm located an hour north of Kansas City in Missouri. Tiny little town of Weatherby. I grow daylilies and iris and sell them online, but I haven't found many plants I didn't like, so I'm always looking for something new to try. Glad to meet you all!

Thanks CeCe,

I live on acreage and have a good sized yard. When we moved here 10 years ago, it was a house in the middle of a thriving hay field. It has been quite an adventure to carve a yard out of the field, but little by little we have pushed back the hay grasses to establish other plantings. The trees we planted have grown enough that now we have a very small shaded area, but mostly we have lots and lots of full sun to grow in. I've concentrated on daylilies and iris so much that I left the veggies go, but this year we have plans to start up a few vegetables in a garden again. I'm new to wintersowing, and will give that a try next month. I have saved some milk jugs and I'm itching to get some things planted and see how wintersowing works for me. We have 3 big white Pyreneese dogs that keep the deer at bay. They are a joy to live with - very friendly dogs.

I'll poke around a bit and read up on who is who and what's happening in the midwest gardening community. I'm hoping there will be a few get-togethers where I can meet some of you. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. I tip my hat to you. Smiling

Acerage! Oh be still my heart. Our property is a half acre. With the house, the shed and the driveway taking up so much space. There are 3 mature Norwegian Maples, 1 mature Quaking Aspen and 1 mature other tree. I can never remember the name of it when I want to. But even so I have managed to get about 20+ gardens planted around here. One with a small pond included. We have lived in this house since 2004 and it had the trees and grass. That was it. I kept digging up lawn and planting. Hubby used to put up a fit when he'd come home from work and find more lawn gone but now he just goes with flow. Might as well cause you see I'm not stopping none too soon Green Grin!

I have quite a few bearded iris, not so much daylilies, Oriental lilies, Orienpet tree lilies, black eye susans, coneflowers, blanker flowers, salvias, phlox, lady's mantles, hosta, bergenia, hellebores, liatris, delphiniums, rose of sharon, hibiscus, bleeding heart, honeysuckle wines, trumpet vines, peonies, lilacs, weigelias, viburnums, hydrangea, barberries, shasta daisy, and I don't know what all else at the moment.

Right now my sun room is full of brugmansia, jasmine, canna, geranium, citrus trees (2)only a few years old Alocasia, and I just bought a baby banana tree. Like I NEEDED one of those yet.

There is so much information to be learned and obtained here on ATP. Gardeners are the friendliest and most helpful people in the world. So don't stay away. A question? Just ask. Someone somewhere will have an answer for you , always.

That's quite a list of plants, CeCe. I have to wonder if it's lack of interest making you forget the name of that tree! Rolling on the floor laughing
You must surely have your hands full taking care of all those luscious plants in your gardens. I'll be watching for photos as the spring gets nearer!

Susan, what part of Missouri? Glad to meet you, no matter what corner of the state you call home. Smiling
