Laughing. There was someone on Dave's that used to make the cat. I think it was Kittymom. I can make the ears, but can't do anything else below it. ^ ^ It erases the ears.

I live 30 miles outside of St. Louis, MO and have been gardening here for the last 20 years. Gateway to the west and home of the beautiful Missouri Botanical Gardens, I'm surrounded by lots of inspiration. I'm a master gardener volunteer but not an expert and that's how I became a Gardener's Detective. Love meeting and learning from other gardener's. Gardeners are patient and generous with their time and knowledge. I am privileged to be surrounded by so many experienced gardeners eager to share information. I have a head planter and watering can collection. My favorite part of gardening is containers. My favorite plants...well let's just say I'd like one of everything. I'm very fickle and would probably give you a new list every time you ask. Growing in my garden now are hosta, ferns, hydrangea, fragrant shrubs, a few native plants, tropicanna canna, Elephant Ears, Caladiums, knockout roses, a few hardy sedums all being swallowed up by ground ivy which I have been battling for the last four years. I think the only way to eradicate it is to move so I am embracing it as a ground cover because it finally won and got the best of me.

Howdy Do! I can't wait to navigate over here!

Anna, I have the same daylily! I have to call it "Adeline's Red With Yellow Throat and Veins" because I don't know the real name.

Hi Susan, yes, speaking of creativity, you are! I love your Princess!

Well, I need to get back to Cubits and start at the beginning. See everyone later or tomorrow :o) We have one last nice day and I am working on moving the little iris :o)

Hi, all:
So glad to find this forum. I live just north of Indianapolis, and have to fit all of my gardening endeavors onto a way-too-small suburban lot with poor soil and a VERY fussy homeowners association. In spite of that, I grow a lot of perennials in beds with my shrubs/trees, and as many veggies and annuals as I can fit in containers. My veggies are grown mostly in earthboxes and other large containers, although my garlic and strawberries are in the ground. I try to fit containers in between my flowering plants so they are disguised from any HOA spies. I've managed to grow potatoes, leeks, carrots, onions, lettuce, cucumbers, zucchini and cabbage in/amongst my flowers. This year, I tried artichokes for the first time, and have 2 plants with buds on them.

I'm a city girl at heart (born/raised in Chicago), but caught the gardening bug a number of years ago. Started with flowers, and have since expanded my horizons. I'm a master gardener, and spend a lot of my time with that group working on our demonstration herb beds and growing herbs for our plant sale. I love to cook, so herbs were a "must have" in my garden.

Looking forward to learning from and sharing with you all.

Hi Linda, Welcome! That container is great. I do one tomato plant a year in a container...and it looks NOTHING like yours...mine is so sad Sad

But I did some herbs in containers this year with flowers (petunias) and I like the results...will do again next year!

Thanks, Maridell. I specifically looked for varieties that would do well in containers. The tomato is Silvery Fir Tree, and the pepper is Fruit Basket, along with Red Rubin basil and nasturtium. It was my first time trying a mixed container like this, and I was happy with the results.

The rest of my tomatoes are struggling in this heat/humidity; nothing is setting fruit Sad

I have some tomato's...ate one about 5 days ago but the rest of the 'maters have a ways to go. I may need to give mine a little shade because there are not many leaves and it is soooo hot out they might burn.

Glad to have found this forum...I love All Things Plants as it will be strictly garden related..I live in Jackson County IN near Seymour. I love gardening but this heat wave is getting to my plants. We were on vacation last week and I came home to lots of weeds and straggly flowers...Mosquitoes eat me each time I venture outdoors...Hoping for a cool down so I can get out and really get dirty weeding and cleaning up...

Hi Indygardengal.

Speaking of mosquitoes, I went camping this weekend in Minnesota and a neighbor gave me some homemade mosquito and tick repellent. I generally do not have much luck with name brand sprays so I gave it a try and I believe it worked better. The recipe came from the Nebraska Games and Parks Commission. It is suppose to be safe and effective on humans and pets. If anyone is interested here it is: 2 cups water, 1 cup white vinegar, 1 cup Avon Skin-So-Soft Bath Oil, 1 tablespoon Eucalyptus Oil. Shake in a spray bottle and let settle before spraying on skin. I think it will be good to use while gardening and plan to do so.

Susan, Ground Ivy does make a good ground cover but it can be gotten rid
of fairly easily. Cut it off at ground level and treat the root with Tordon. It
has such a long tap root that it is really hard to kill with products like RoundUp.
That is how I treat any plant with a long tap root. I usually mix Tordon with
diesel fuel 1:1. You have to keep it shaken up well tho as the components
will separate quickly.

Anna, have you moved to Joplin or are you just there doing relief and recovery
work? It's good to run into you again. I pray all is well with you.

I'm hoping more midwest and especially MO people come over from DG.
I miss them but will not go back there. ATP is set up almost exactly like DG
so they should feel comfortable here. I know a lot of them said cubits was
hard to get around in so they didn't make the move.

GOD bless and keep each of you.
