Tom, do you like Chenille? I've got it.. I was told it's really beautiful, but from the pictures I've seen, the color combination of orange beards w/ lavender flowers seems odd.

Sherry, Chenille is one I got as a bonus, and I wouldn't have bought based on pictures. When it bloomed, I was surprised that I liked it. It's one of those that is much more pleasing to the eye in real life. I tend not to like the light colored ones as much, but I'm getting to enjoy them more and I've learned they look better paired with a contrasting color.

Got back from voting a while ago, and now I need to look for irises to add to my wish list! I would like to once go and vote for some candidate that I felt confident would be good, not just someone that won't do quite as much damage. Glare Maybe looking for irises will put me in a better mood! Soooo, it you have some suggestions, I'm all ears! I'm all ears! and eyes Blinking

Tom, when asked how I voted by a good friend I replied 'the lesser of two evils. I wish I could say once that I voted for a hero! I am looking over my wish lists also.

Wouldn't that be nice! In 2012 Suttons introduced one called Enlightened, that I have wanted, but not found. Does anyone grow it? I haven't seen it in their catalog since.

It seems to be a luminata with yellow highlights. It's a median. I think I want to add that one.

That is a really nice looking iris Tom! I think I would want to add that as well. Lovey dubby

Speaking of "does anybody grow" - I really would like to pick up a few more of Lucille Pinkston's registered iris, but can't find anyone who carries any of her cultivars besides Owyhee Desert and Bruneau Jasper. I have seen pictures of Owyhee Amethyst and one or two others but have not been able to track down any vendors. Since she passed a few years ago I don't have the luxury of her having a website. Anyone have an idea where to start?

My wish lists typically arise from garden spots where color is lacking during Iris season, or a garden area has expanded and of course needs Irises Smiling Next years project is joining 2 beds to create a shrub and perennial border around the front yard, where I'll use a lot of bright, clear colors that will show off from a distance.

The Irises that keep drawing my attention are those that give the illusion of being lit from within, have bright flashes and beards, and offer lots of contrast. Here's a list of some with those qualities, but I'm not so concerned with obtaining specific named varieties, just several with similar color combinations and brightness.

I recommend an oldie called Oktoberfest. It is a lovely smooth orange that seems to float above the foliage and catches the weak spring sunshine better than some darker colors. We often plan our selections during the summer and fall without taking into consideration spring garden needs. Sounds like you have a plan Neal.
