Karen - So glad others know about Epsom Salt. It provides a tiny amount of magnesium but maybe part of the treatment is that it gets us to notice the plant, trim when needed, water a bit more in a dry year, etc. Use it for roses and vegetables!

Just bought four clematises in a sale for 5$ each. I could not carry more than four pots, but I will buy more tomorrow.

I bought:
Allanah, HF Younge, Sapphire Indigo and Vagabond.

Does anyone know what color is Allanah? I googled the plant; there were pictures with red flowers and some pictures with almost pink flowers. What is the real color? I would like to plant mine between Midnight Owl and Jazz roses. It will probably work with Midnight Owl, but I am not sure about Jazz. Please advise. Thank you.

I don't have Allanah, Jasmin, but I went to the database and found four different pictures and colors for it.
Clematis 'Allanah'

Seems like Pixie's climate might be closest to yours and clematises do react to different climates and colors do change from the hotter zones to the cooler ones.

Thank You!

I'll plant it as planned. Hopefylly it will work with Jazz because of its very dark stamens in the middle.

I could not remember which one I had, I was thinking it was Princess Diana, but that name didnt ring a bell. I think it is Duchess of Albany, I know it sounded royal. I trimmed her back this year, but she is till out growing her trellis again. This truly seems to be one that grows 15 feet tall. She will be getting moved to a larger arching trellis instead of a straight up one.

Marie - I have a few Duchess of Albany (only because they are so very easy to propagate by just laying down a new, supple stem) and they're all growing on hydrangea Tardiva. Princess Diana grows on a Japanese maple, Scolopendrifolium.

Here the old stems do not regenerate and just look like old, gray, stems and can easily be removed. New growth springs up from the good earth in very early spring.

My Duchess is growing well too. It is reaching towards the top of the arch. Good to know it is easy to layer. So far I have not had any luck doing that. Pirl, do you put extra compost down where you want it to grow?

They tell me it is a 'Bee's Jubilee' --what do you all think?--and offer to send another possible, hopefully 'Josephine' in the fall

Lovely!

Just soft soil will do though they'd love moist compost.

Select a new supple stem, prepare the planting spot, very lightly scratching the node after you remove the leaves at the node will help it root. Cover with a rock, a brick, a stone - anything to insure it will remain moist, and you'll have a new plant in autumn.

Not sure either if it's Bee's Jubilee, it's anthers are described as beige or light brown and yours are white with red tips. Paul has a good close-up here:

Nelly Moser doesn't look quite right either, it's anthers are quite dark red.

that deep color has faded in the aging flowers and I see the anthers as beige and pinky-purple tipped, also that whole anther section is really quite pronounced as compared to all my other clems.

This is 'Nelly Moser', aging, and in the same light. The mystery clem is definitely not 'Nelly Moser.'

That is an idea Arlene. Moving it so it can grow up a tree or a large bush. I had cut it down to around 18 inches or so and it is now over 6 ft tall and growing. It surely needs something bigger.

Mine is in full bloom right now. Not sure of it's name. Last week the trellis that it's on fell to the ground with the clematis and all it's blooms face down in an inch of pooled rainwater during a thunderstorm with hail. I put my brave coat on and tied it up with string while lightning was cracking near by. It looks worse for wear, but doesn't look as bad as I thought it would.
